Compensation: $100,000 - $130,000 CDN

Location: 335 Steelcase Rd East, Markham, ON (Hybrid, 3 days in office)

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive health insurance and paramedical coverage for you and your loved ones, because your wellbeing comes first.
  • Comfort + Convenience: Casual dress code and on-site parking, so you can focus on doing great work.
  • The Sky’s the Limit: Clear pathways for growth and advancement. We celebrate ambition and back it with real opportunities to move up.
  • Supercharge Your Development: Access to company-sponsored learning opportunities to expand your skills and broaden your professional horizons.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own supplier relationships end to end, including price, payment terms, material quality, and inventory exposure, turning purchasing into a source of cash and margin.
  • Execute negotiation strategy across our five product categories (Flexible Packaging, Folding Carton, Roll Labels, Large Format, and Commercial Print), including films, laminates, specialty substrates, paper and board, inks, and consumables.
  • Use market conditions, volume consolidation, and competitive tension across suppliers to win better pricing.
  • Deliver annual cost-reduction targets by category and report realized savings to leadership and Finance. Savings are measured on total landed cost, never at the expense of press yield, quality, or lead time, and only price reductions reconciled by Finance count.
  • Apply category strategies: build the supply base and manage commodity price exposure for Flexible Packaging and Folding Carton (keeping it food-safe); protect quality and availability while consolidating volume for Roll Labels and Large Format; and simplify Commercial Print with fewer SKUs, fewer suppliers, and lower inventory.
  • Renegotiate supplier payment terms toward a year-one target of 45–60 days and a long-term target of 75 days or more, starting with the highest-spend and most concentrated suppliers.
  • Balance price, early-payment discounts, and extended terms with an explicit cost-of-capital view.
  • Tie purchasing to usage, production schedules, and demand forecasts; set reorder points, minimum-order strategies, and stock policies by material type.
  • Monitor raw material exposure, and flag and correct over-buying driven by minimum order quantities, speculative buys, or yield issues.
  • Use consignment, vendor-managed inventory (VMI), and blanket purchase orders so the low minimum order quantities we offer customers do not force us to hold excess stock.
  • Work with Operations on work-in-process and finished-goods reduction where sourcing decisions drive it.
  • Run a structured qualification process for new suppliers and materials: trials, yield testing, sign-off criteria, and scale-up gates.
  • Track yield, defect rates, and on-time delivery by supplier, hold suppliers accountable for quality failures through claims, credits, and corrective action, and consolidate volume toward the best performers.
  • Own the SQF approved-supplier program and incoming-material lot traceability, in partnership with Quality.
  • Identify, qualify, and onboard overseas suppliers for core product lines to strengthen supply, lower cost, and reduce dependence on a small number of domestic suppliers, comparing options on total landed cost and keeping a domestic backup for critical materials.
  • Own the supply side of the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process, led by Operations, and contribute to the monthly Sales & Operations meeting. Work with the Director of Operations, Sales, and Finance to align demand and supply and set new cost-reduction and inventory targets.
  • Partner with Finance to track AP days, inventory days, and purchase commitments, with sourcing KPIs reviewed weekly.
  • Lead and develop the purchasing team, shifting it from order processing to category management and negotiation.
  • Build category plans, supplier scorecards, contract and terms tracking, and savings reporting.
  • Use NetSuite data and AI and analytics tools to drive decisions on spend, terms, and inventory, and maintain standard material costs in NetSuite in partnership with Finance.
  • Spend regular time on the production floor for material trials and yield reviews, and travel to supplier sites and trade events when required.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in sourcing or procurement in a manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience buying flexible packaging substrates, films, laminates, paperboard, or comparable converting and printing materials.
  • A documented track record of cost-out and extended payment terms, with numbers (spend, starting terms, result). You’ll be asked to walk us through one or two negotiations you led.
  • Enough technical depth to judge material specifications, trial results, and yield data.
  • Fluency in working-capital concepts (AP days, inventory days, cash conversion cycle) and comfort building analysis from an ERP.
  • Tenacious negotiator who doesn’t accept a supplier’s first answer and pushes hard while keeping the relationship intact.
  • Decisive and data-driven, direct in communication, and skeptical enough to ask why inventory is rising or terms are short.
  • Results-oriented and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with an OKR and weekly-cadence operating style.
  • Experience leading or directing buyers is an asset.
  • NetSuite experience is an asset.
  • Experience running an SQF or food-safety approved-supplier program is an asset.
  • Experience in packaging, printing, or converting, including digital print or folding carton production, is an asset.
