The Opportunity 

Act as a Paralegal with sole carriage of Accident Benefits files, representing Definity before the License Appeal Tribunal. Manage all aspects of litigation, including file strategy, settlement negotiations, expert engagement, client reporting, and hearing preparation. Contribute to the team's success through knowledge sharing, precedent development, and presentations on emerging case law and legislative developments, while maintaining a target caseload and hybrid work expectations.

What to Expect 

  • Manage a target caseload of License Appeal Tribunal (LAT) Accident Benefits files, with sole carriage responsibility from assignment through resolution. 
  • Maintain carriage of files in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring adherence to litigation deadlines, reporting requirements, and service standards. 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the litigation team by developing, updating, and maintaining precedents, templates, and litigation resources. 
  • Monitor developments in Accident Benefits and LAT jurisprudence, and share legal and industry updates with internal stakeholders and clients through presentations, training sessions, and written summaries. 
  • Foster a strong team culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and participating in departmental initiatives and professional development activities. 
  • Meet the organization's hybrid work expectations.

What you Bring

  • Paralegal program (degree or diploma)/P1 LSO License preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Insurance Defense or commercial litigation experience
  • Previous experience with the License Appeal Tribunal and Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule including procedural knowledge of the Tribunal
  • Proficiency with Outlook and all MS Office applications
  • Excellent negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills across a range of contexts
  • Ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple, yet sometimes conflicting priorities
  • Team player and self-motivated 

Salary Range: $73,500 - $123,500

High degree of proficiency with English required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.
