Job Description

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for design and assessment of building mechanical systems and components. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation and operation of mechanical designs. Key responsibilities include conducting research, analyzing data, preparing technical documentation and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. To be successful, you will combine technical expertise with creativity and problem-solving to drive engineering projects from concept to completion.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing projects including oversight of the approved scope of work to ensure all activities are completed;
  • Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications;
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, size pipes and ducts, size expansion tanks, select mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, AHU’s, pumps etc
  • Inspecting and reporting on in service mechanical and electrical equipment, including reviews for the purpose of completing property condition assessments and reserve fund studies;
  • Preparing written technical reports, design sketches, drawings mark-ups and specifications as required;
  • Preparing repair and replacement cost estimates;
  • Balancing multiple projects of varied size and complexity with multiple deliverables;
  • Attending meetings as required to service projects;
  • Maintaining client relationships;
  • Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building mechanical systems engineering based on Ontario industry standards;
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire detection, suppression and safety systems, electrical supply and distribution systems, and lighting systems;
  • Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code, the National Fire Code, and the Ontario Electrical Code;
  • Professional designation (P. Eng.)
  • Hands-on practical experience in the testing, repair, and replacement of mechanical equipment is an asset;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Qualified candidates must be able to clearly and concisely converse with the project team, both internally and externally;
  • Organization skills including maintenance of paper and electronic files;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • G class driver’s license and access to own vehicle on a daily basis.
  • Candidates selected for interviews will need to complete a written HVAC/Mechanical engineering knowledge test
