Job Description:

The Senior Electro-mechanical Engineer/Designer plays an integral role in our applications engineering department and leads the design and delivery of integrated warehouse material handling systems from concept through commissioning. The role requires advanced mechanical design capability, experience acting as a technical lead on multidisciplinary projects, and the ability to provide technical oversight and guidance to junior engineers and designers. Projects involve large-scale material handling and automation solutions for global leaders in the warehousing and logistics industry, offering the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact systems within a growing market industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for pre-sale concept development, order execution, and delivery, ensuring solutions are correctly configured, documented, and executed.
  • Support sales during pre-sale activities and lead the translation of customer requirements into configured, standards-based, build-ready technical solutions, including concept development, estimating input, and system integration.
  • Own the end-to-end technical execution of customer projects, coordinating closely with sales, project management, service, supply chain, and production teams.
  • Coordinate and oversee the assignment and prioritization of work across the applications engineering team, ensuring effective delegation and technical alignment.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of technical deliverables, including bills of materials, ERP job content, manufacturing drawings, and order-specific documentation.
  • Prepare and review order-specific documentation, such as general arrangement drawings, installation layouts, schematics, assembly drawings, work instructions, and commissioning documents.
  • Provide technical oversight, design and drawing review, and guidance to junior engineers and designers, acting as a quality gate for released work.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams, including welders, assemblers, and electricians, to support manufacturability, resolve technical issues, and ensure successful execution of designs.
  • Participate in customer-facing meetings as required, representing the technical solution and providing expertise on technical capabilities and scope.
  • Develop and improve standards, documentation, and workflows to support consistency, scalability, and continuous improvement

Experience:

  • 10+ years of related experience as a Mechanical Engineer/Designer, Applications Engineer, or related position.
  • Demonstrated capability of owning the technical execution of projects
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and PDM workflows
  • Experience managing technical priorities across multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience providing technical guidance and reviewing the work of junior employees
  • Experience with installing, integrating, and commissioning custom industrial equipment.
  • Exposure to Industrial Controls, System Integration, and PLC programming & troubleshooting, an asset.
  • Experience with developing conveyor systems or material handling equipment, an asset.
  • Proficient software experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV or CSI (Cloud Suite Industrial, preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project). Core Competencies, Interpersonal & Intrapersonal Skills:

  • Effectively prioritizes and manages multiple projects or workstreams of varying complexity while maintaining quality, schedule commitments, and technical rigor.
  • Collaborates effectively across disciplines and functions, building strong professional working relationships through integrity, ethical behavior, and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Provides informal technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers through design reviews, problem solving collaboration, and knowledge sharing, while also reviewing work and offering technical support, cross training, and clear articulation of technical expectations, standards, and desired outcomes—without formal people management responsibility
  • Maintains a continuous improvement mindset, actively developing new skills, refining processes, and embracing new technical and professional challenges.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in office and manufacturing facility with flexibility for travel to off-site meetings
  • Hybrid remote setup an option after onboarding period
  • May experience tight deadlines and stressful conditions at times
  • Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and multiple tasks daily
  • Primarily standard business hours, with occasional flexibility required to support project and business needs.
  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment, including movement around equipment and workstations
  • Sitting, working at desk/personal computer for extended period

Salary Range: $87,539 - $145,899
