Role Description

QuadReal’s Legal Team comprises of nine lawyers and three paralegals and is overseen by our Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. Most of the Team is based in Canada, with one lawyer in New York and two lawyers in London. Six of those lawyers are dedicated to transactional work and form the Transactions Legal Team.

The Transactions Legal Team provides commercial advice and legal support to QuadReal with respect to its investments and operating platforms. We negotiate the best outcomes possible, mitigate risks, and support informed and transparent decision making. We help to create enduring value by implementing QuadReal’s strategic vision and seek the best path forward through complex legal and commercial landscapes.

Responsibilities

Based out of Toronto you would be responsible for providing legal support, oversight and strategic advice to some or all of QuadReal’s North American Real Estate Equity Investments, Credit businesses and operating platforms. Reporting to Director, Legal, in our Toronto office, you would undertake some or all of the following matters with an appropriate degree of supervision depending on the task:

  • Provide legal and strategic advice with respect to:

    • Asset management, including oversight, governance and growth of operating platforms

    • The development, purchase and sale of real estate investments;

    • Joint venture formation and oversight of existing joint venture relationships;

    • Borrower side debt financings/refinancings; and

    • Lender side financings/refinancings across the capital stack (senior, mezzanine, preferred equity).

  • Review and negotiate legal documentation in connection with the above.

  • Assist with regulatory compliance in connection with the above.

  • Assist the Investment and Asset Management Teams with the preparation and presentation of Management Investment Committee materials for each investment.

  • Work closely with, and, together with the Investment and Asset Management Teams, manage and provide instructions to external legal counsel (including establishing and monitoring legal budgets).

  • Work closely with QuadReal’s Tax Team to develop, implement and maintain efficient business structures.

  • Collaborate closely with QuadReal’s Legal Team.

Experience and Qualifications:

Required level of qualification:

  • Lawyer qualified to practice law in Canada or the United States.

  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience at a top tier law firm in its real estate, corporate-real estate or real estate-finance practice.

  • Takes a creative, solution-oriented, strategic and forward-thinking approach that is focused on business results.

  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, problem-solving, negotiating and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to distill and communicate, concisely, complex legal issues and advance clear, confident and strongly supported recommendations and decisions, whether orally or in writing.

  • Self-starter that takes ownership and accountability of matters, with appropriate supervision, while keeping colleagues informed of the status of matters and material developments and decisions.

  • Eagerness to develop a deep understanding of how legal and business decisions impact a broader organisation.

  • Candidate ideally has hands-on experience using AI-assisted contract analysis, document automation, and workflow tools to support real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and development transactions.

This job posting is for a newly created role within our organization.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $150,000 – $170,000
