The Director of Marketing leads market development and product strategy activities for a medical device portfolio. This role is responsible for identifying customer needs, translating insights into product requirements, guiding innovation projects, and developing commercialization strategies that drive business growth.

Working closely with R&D, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams, the Director of Marketing serves as the voice of the customer throughout the product development process and ensures successful progression of new products from concept through launch.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Develop and execute upstream marketing strategies for assigned product portfolios.
  • Create product roadmaps aligned with business objectives and market opportunities.
  • Conduct market assessments to identify growth opportunities and unmet clinical needs.
  • Support portfolio planning and prioritization decisions.

Voice of Customer & Market Insights

  • Lead customer research initiatives with physicians, clinicians, administrators, and patients.
  • Gather and synthesize market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback.
  • Translate customer needs into actionable product requirements and value propositions.
  • Identify emerging market trends and competitive threats.

Product Development Leadership

  • Partner with R&D to define product concepts, features, and clinical benefits.
  • Lead development of market requirements documents and target product profiles.
  • Represent commercial and customer perspectives on cross-functional development teams.
  • Support stage-gate reviews and business case development.

Commercialization Planning

  • Develop positioning, segmentation, and go-to-market strategies for pipeline products.
  • Build product forecasts and market opportunity assessments.
  • Collaborate with downstream marketing teams to ensure successful launch planning.
  • Support reimbursement, health economics, and market access initiatives.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Lead cross-functional project teams without direct authority.
  • Collaborate with Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Operations, and Sales teams.
  • Present strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Mentor product managers and marketing team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 8–12 years of medical device, diagnostics, or healthcare marketing experience.
  • 3–5 years of product management or upstream marketing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting product development and commercialization efforts.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, and customer research capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is an asset.
  • Experience launching medical device products.
  • Experience working with physicians and key opinion leaders.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and reimbursement environments.
  • Global marketing exposure.
