As a Counsel, Client Solutions (Regulatory) you will provide general legal advice and direction to various stakeholders, with an emphasis on supporting our property and casualty insurance business. You will support a range of strategic projects, offer guidance and assistance to our compliance and privacy teams, and review, draft and negotiate contracts.​

How you will create impact:
  • Providing legal advice and guidance on various issues related to all facets of our property and casualty business, including both personal and commercial lines of business.
  • Advising on privacy issues.
  • Negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts (such as distribution, reinsurance and networking agreements), insurance policies and endorsements, and internal guidelines.
  • Cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with key legal and business personnel.
  • Representing the organization in industry groups and committees, pro-actively identifying and actioning process improvements, and keeping current on legislation and legal developments

To join our team:  
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of broad and progressive legal experience in the insurance industry, with a particular focus on property and casualty insurance, including both personal and commercial lines.
  • You have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) or a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and are licensed to practice law in a Canadian province or territory.
  • You have solid in-house legal counsel process knowledge and experience

    • You will do detail oriented work that requires a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time.
    • You will be subject to a Background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.

    Expected salary/hourly range $104,717 - $154,700+

    The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​​

    Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
