Job Summary

This fast-paced role is ideal for someone who thrives on identifying and remediating operational risk challenges with a focus on the investment environment. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Associate Director will help evolve HOOPP's Operational Risk Management (ORM) and Enterprise Crisis and Continuity (ECC) programs by promoting a strong risk culture and partnering with business areas across the organization to identify and mitigate key operational risks.

The role will support both programs. For Operational Risk, the Associate Director will support the execution and enhancement of HOOPP's ORM programs including vendor risk management, operational risk event reporting, key risk indicators and industry event surveillance. This role will also work directly with front office trading teams to review end-to-end processes and surface risks, inefficiencies and control gaps. For ECC, this role will lead the execution and ongoing management of HOOPP's Enterprise Crisis Management and Business Continuity programs, including plan development and testing and response management during actual disruptions.

We are looking for someone who brings an exceptional command of AI and applies it through a strategic lens—identifying high-value opportunities, translating emerging capabilities into practical business solutions, and guiding responsible AI adoption to improve decision-making, efficiency, innovation, and long-term organizational value.

What you will do:

For designated divisions, support the Operational Risk Management (ORM) and Enterprise Crisis and Continuity programs.

Operational Risk:

  • Investment Management:
    • Partner with front office trading teams to review end-to-end processes, identify operational risks, inefficiencies, control gaps and opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop a strong understanding of trading activities, products and workflows to ensure recommendations reflect business needs and market realities.
  • Leverage existing risk management processes and capabilities, as well as industry knowledge to support the implementation, enhancement, ongoing maintenance, and execution of HOOPP’s ORM program and underlying processes, including but not limited to:
    • Vendor Risk Management
    • Operational Risk Event reporting
    • Key Risk Indicators
    • Industry Event surveillance and reporting
  • Provide analytical and operational support to the maintenance and execution of HOOPP’s operational risk event reporting process, and the undertaking of associated procedures, including ongoing monitoring of the program for continued relevance and effectiveness.
  • Support business partners in their implementation of ORM program components within their respective divisions and provide appropriate oversight to govern the effectiveness of the implementation.
  • Support the ongoing development and evolution of an Operational Risk Dashboard that will showcase the results of the key operational risk metrics.
  • Support on-demand advisory requests and opportunities, which can include special projects, deep dive analysis and investigations.

Enterprise Crisis and Continuity:

  • Oversee the development, enhancement, maintenance, and testing of business continuity plans.
  • Facilitate business impact analyses (BIAs), dependency mapping, and risk assessments in collaboration with divisions and IT partners.
  • Support enterprise response, recovery, and restoration activities during actual crisis or disruption events.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Crisis Management program and support the implementation and awareness for leaders, plan owners, and staff.
  • Provide advisory support to business units on crisis preparedness, continuity planning, and resilience best practices.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information Technology:

  • Identify opportunities to use technology, automation and AI to improve efficiency, decision-making and control effectiveness.
  • Support the design, testing and implementation of tools that reduce manual activity, improve data quality and enhance the user experience.
  • Develop and leverage AI to automate manual processes, which can include ongoing monitoring activities, data extraction and report generation.

What you bring:

  • University education with a degree in business, risk management, or other relevant major.
  • 8+ years of progressive risk management experience, in asset management, pension or financial services industries. Previous pension fund experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the front office trading function and downstream the end-to-end processes.
  • Demonstrated exceptional experience on AI tools (including large language models and automation platforms) to build efficient, automated processes — with concrete examples of what you built and the time or risk reductions as a result.
  • Business continuity, crisis management, or resilience-related certification (e.g., BCI, DRII) is an asset.
  • Professional maturity and proven ability to build strong relationships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail and execution-oriented with a curious and continuous learning and improvement mindset.
  • Demonstrated strong research, innovation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated self-starter that can work in a fast-paced and high-performance culture
  • Alignment with HOOPP's values.
