The Opportunity

Our team is growing, and we are seeking an Actuarial Analyst to join our dynamic and impactful Commercial Auto team.

As part of the team, you will be responsible for supporting the pricing and profitability of commercial business underwritten by Aviva Canada. We do so by providing actuarial analysis on Commercial Auto products and collaborating with underwriters and the leadership in these areas. Senior management helps to establish appropriate renewal strategies. The team plays a key role in supporting the financial goals related to the commercial insurance operations.

What you’ll do:
  • Maintain and enhance the commercial insurance segmentation strategy and algorithms. Support the alignment of technical considerations with business objectives to help drive meaningful outcomes.

  • Conduct pricing reviews of various coverages and segments of the commercial business, including reviewing the rating algorithms and rate adequacy, analyzing the business impact of the pricing changes, communicating the analytical results to the stakeholders, reaching an agreement on the rate actions and preparing the rate filings to the provincial regulators.

  • Monitor the performance of the commercial portfolio and on various business initiatives, to identify key trends and recommend actions to the senior management and to the business to achieve profitability and growth targets.

  • Maintain and improve actuarial databases/SAS programs. Identify data issues and create actions to remedy them.

  • Support technical development required to build and maintain Excel rating tools for the business.

  • Communicate analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences

What you’ll bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • 1+ years of property & casualty actuarial experience, including internships or co-op placements.

  • 2 SOA/CAS exams.

  • Strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis.

  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, draw insights, and recommend solutions.

  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Programming proficiency (e.g., SAS, VBA, or similar tools).

What you’ll get:
  • The salary band for this position ranges from $70,000 to $95,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
