Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Join Royal Bank of Canada as a Software Engineer Intern within the Investor Services - Data & Digital - Business Intelligence group. This internship offers hands-on experience developing innovative solutions in the financial services industry while working alongside experienced engineering professionals in a collaborative, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

Core Development Activities:

  • Develop, test, and refine software features under the mentorship and guidance of senior software engineers
  • Actively participate in code reviews, contributing to and learning from the collaborative review process
  • Contribute meaningful code and improvements to the existing codebase across multiple projects
  • Work across the technology stack on diverse projects that support RBC IS groups
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration with teams from Business Intelligence, Data, Digital, and other business segments to design and deliver high-quality solutions

Communication & Documentation:

  • Document your technical work, code, and project outcomes clearly and thoroughly
  • Share learnings, challenges, and insights with your team through presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Communicate regularly with various business partners and stakeholders throughout Investor Services and related platforms
  • Contribute to team knowledge and best practices documentation

Team Engagement:

  • Work as a member of an exciting, close-knit, supportive, and dynamic engineering group
  • Collaborate with colleagues across different business segments within RBC to understand broader organizational context

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor of Computer Science degree (or higher) from an accredited university or equivalent related program
  • Demonstrated familiarity with one or more programming languages (Python, Java, C++, or similar)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Genuine eagerness to learn, grow, and adapt in a professional setting
  • Interest in Data and Financial Markets (or demonstrated willingness to develop this knowledge)

Nice to Have

  • Any relevant workplace experience in software development
  • Knowledge in banking/finance
  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, Django Web Framework, Angular
