Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This is a unique 12-16 month opportunity to join the Securities Lending Desk as both a trading team member and an innovation driver. The role entails directly supporting the Desk who is responsible for market execution with borrowers, maximizing profitability within existing products, and identifying revenue opportunities for our lending clients, while spearheading automation and modernization initiatives that directly impacts our business. This role offers the rare combination of hands-on market experience and the autonomy to identify and solve operational challenges through technology and process improvement.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

BAU responsibilities (Trading)

  • Execute securities lending transactions with approved borrowers within the boundaries of our legal agreements and approved credit limits and policies
  • Monitor the daily recall process with borrowers and escalating any issues to the traders while working with the Service Delivery team in ensuring client sales are covered
  • Update the daily Pricing file (data file from S&P Markit) before market open
  • Prepare daily push lists for both fixed income and equities prior to market open
  • Produce ad hoc reports for analysis and revenue opportunities
  • Run re-rate tool and renegotiate pricing on existing loans
  • Investigate and resolved any trade discrepancies and contract compare breaks
  • Review specials lists and help mine our custody clients assets listing for revenue opportunities

Project Work (Automation & Innovation)

  • Assess current desk operations to identify inefficiencies, manual bottlenecks, and areas ripe for automation
  • Explore and prototype applications of AI and machine learning to enhance desk efficiency, decision-making, and client service
  • Evaluate and modernize legacy automation tools hosted on Excel macros, replacing them with robust, maintainable solutions
  • Develop solutions to streamline manual operations such as borrower locates, loan recall communication and tracking, settlement workflows, and lending program rule maintenance.

Learning and Development opportunities

  • Further understanding of financial markets, trading strategies and the securities lending industry
  • Implement theoretical programming and AI knowledge into a fast-paced sales and trading environment.
  • This role crosses paths with many other areas of RBC IS; Client operations, Client Coverage, Collateral and mid-office support groups where additional experience can be gained.

  • Strong system abilities – Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Bloomberg

Solid understanding of economic concepts with ability to learn applied financial concepts on the role
