Adyen Leadership & Management

In previous roles, my interactions were almost exclusively with my direct manager. Here, the hierarchy is much flatter, and it’s not unusual for me to work directly with my Director, VP, or even our Chief Commerce Officer on a customer strategy. There’s a genuine feeling that everyone, regardless of their title, is invested in your success and, by extension, our customers’ success. That lack of ego and the collective focus on getting the best outcome is something I value, and haven't experienced to this degree anywhere else.

Beyond the daily environment, the consistent support from my manager has been instrumental. Their investment in my success is evident in our regular meetings. Furthermore, the chance to connect with global colleagues during our annual company events in San Francisco and Amsterdam underscores Adyen's commitment to building a truly unified team. After 20 years in this industry, I can honestly say I've never experienced anything quite like it.

My leadership has frequent conversations with me on the next challenge I would like to take on, such as managing larger projects, or working with experts in their own rights across timezones. I have been mentored into how to define and solidify expectations of a project, and how to multi-task as a technical lead when different asks seem to be equally urgent at any given time.

Leading multi-disciplinary distributed teams has been a phenomenal catalyst for my growth as a global engineering leader. Adyen provides incredible autonomy, and the support I’ve received from leadership and access to complex, global projects has pushed me to expand my skill set, think much more strategically, and scale myself and my teams effectively.

I’m an ambitious engineer, and I’m motivated and supported to solve interesting yet difficult problems that have a significant impact on customers. We also have support from managers and leadership to deliver the best for our customers. That enablement is unique.

Working at Adyen has definitely forced me to level up. I’m very lucky to have a very supportive team and manager that have allowed me to learn from their examples. They give me the room to work things out for myself but are also there to push me to consider new ideas. I’ve been able to see first hand what empathetic, accountable leadership brings to a team and I try to apply that in my role.
