Ciena’s WaveLogic Software Development team builds and sustains platforms that enable convergence across photonics, OTN, and Ethernet packet layers within global networks. This role contributes to the development and ongoing enhancement of the WaveLogic Test Platform, supporting system reliability and performance. The position provides exposure to complex embedded systems and cross-platform software environments.

How you will make an impact:
  • Participate in software development life cycle activities from development through customer delivery
  • Implement cross-platform software and services across embedded CPUs, SOCs, Ethernet PHYs, FPGAs, and optical components
  • Apply Linux kernel, TCP/IP stack, forwarding tables, IP filters, VLANs, and memory management concepts in development activities
  • Design and develop drivers, diagnostics, and applications using C, C++, and Python
  • Debug and resolve system defects, throughput, and performance issues
  • Develop scripts, test utilities, and development tools to improve engineering efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and verification teams to resolve issues and support large-scale software releases

The Must haves:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Application of Embedded C and C++ programming languages
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience with Linux kernel drivers and user space drivers
  • Utilization of Yocto containers, Docker, and related tools
  • Demonstrated interest in software development
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies and concepts

Nice to Haves:
  • Exposure to real-time operating systems concepts
  • Exposure to software development methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall
  • Exposure to optical networking concepts including DWDM, OTN, Ethernet, OSI Model, and PMs

Pay Range:
The salary range for this role in Ottawa is $79, 800 - $127, 600

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
