Job Description

VP - Capital Partnerships, Energy

Role and Responsibilities

The VP will play a key role in supporting Brookfield’s leadership position in the energy transition by delivering innovative investment solutions that mobilize capital toward scalable energy and decarbonization opportunities.  This role will work closely with the investment, sustainability, and asset management teams to design and structure investment vehicles and capital programs that will enable Brookfield to capture new investment opportunities and grow its Energy platform. The role will collaborate closely with Brookfield’s institutional investor base to build strategic investment partnerships, design capital solutions, and raise third-party equity across the platform.  

Key responsibilities include:

Support new investment products

  • Facilitate the creation and structuring of new investment products within the Renewable Power and Transition franchise by aligning LP capital allocation considerations with key Energy investment themes;

  • Lead research of new sectors and conduct preliminary screening of opportunities that could form the foundation of future investment strategies

Design and execute capital solutions

  • Independently structure, execute, and negotiate equity capital solutions for existing and new fund investments, including co-investments, continuation vehicles, yield cos, club deals, joint ventures, minority stake sales and broader capital partnerships;

    • Work closely with the wider investment team to design funding strategy for larger transactions and identify institutional partners for engagement

    • Lead market sounding and investor outreach, working with advisors or Brookfield’s Global Client Group where applicable to identify and reach out to potential investment partners

    • Oversee junior team members on the preparation of investment memoranda, financial models, and due diligence materials to be shared with Brookfield’s investment partners

    • Leverage deep knowledge of the investment, including underwritten business plan, key diligence findings, risk / return profile, and value drivers to lead investor diligence, supporting their analysis and review of the transaction

    • Collaborate with legal counsel and senior team members to draft and negotiate key transaction terms and governance

    • Work collaboratively with tax and finance on investment structures

    • Balances investor requirements with transaction certainty and timing

Engage and partner with existing and potential institutional investors

  • Present Brookfield’s Energy investment strategy to prospective LPs, including communicating our overall investment approach, fund and investment performance, operating capabilities and Impact expertise; proactively identify LP prospects where applicable;

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Renewable Power and Impact investing, representing the Energy platform in investor meetings and at industry events to educate the market on our strategy;

  • Structure and formalize relationships with catalytic or concessionary capital providers where applicable;

Desired Qualifications

  • 8 – 10 years of experience in investment banking or direct investments or co-investment structuring/syndication;

  • Strong transactional experience in private markets;

  • Undergraduate degree in business or finance;

  • Analytical and strategic thinker with the ability to assess complex situations, analyze quantitative and qualitative information, and make effective recommendations;

  • Proactive self-starter who is able to handle pressure effectively;

  • Can lead projects independently with strong project management skills;

  • Able to effectively coach and manage junior team members and demonstrates a commitment to shared success;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a particular strength in liaising with cross-functional teams and senior investment decision makers;

  • Experience with renewables, power, energy or infrastructure an asset, but not required
