Who you are:

We are always looking for amazing talent who can contribute to our growth and deliver results! Geotab is seeking a Vehicle Systems Engineer to research and reverse engineer vehicle systems, develop ways to capture high-quality vehicle data, and help automate and improve our global vehicle support. This data helps power Geotab’s products and support customers around the world. If you love technology and are keen to join an industry leader, we would love to hear from you!

What you'll do:

As a Vehicle Systems Engineer, your key areas of responsibility will include investigating vehicle electrical, hardware, and communications systems; developing and documenting methods to collect vehicle data; and resolving data quality issues that affect Geotab’s products. You will help define requirements for hardware and firmware teams, develop and modify test software and firmware, and investigate potential interactions between Geotab systems and vehicles. You will work closely with Geotab’s hardware, firmware, and software teams, contribute to global engineering tools and processes, and collaborate with OEMs on technical data and diagnostics support.

To be successful in this role, you will be an analytical, resourceful problem-solver with strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be comfortable working in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment, able to make well-judged decisions, and effective at explaining technical findings to different audiences.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Reverse engineer vehicle electrical, hardware, and communications systems and protocols.
  • Design and document methods for collecting vehicle data in formats Geotab’s hardware and software teams can use.
  • Investigate high-priority vehicle data quality issues and identify vehicle support gaps.
  • Develop hardware and firmware requirements that support safe interactions with vehicle control systems.
  • Create and modify test software and firmware to mitigate issues and develop new features.
  • Perform and document root cause analyses of potential adverse interactions between Geotab systems and vehicles.
  • Contribute to global reverse engineering tools and processes, work with OEMs on custom data and diagnostics support, and help maintain legacy vehicle support where applicable.
What you'll bring to the role:

  • 1–3 years of experience with vehicle systems, sensors, actuators, control systems, diagnostics, and vehicle electrical or communications architecture.
  • 1–3 years of experience with automotive diagnostic standards such as SAE J1939, SAE J1979, KWP2000, UDS (ISO 14229), or WWH-OBD (ISO 27145).
  • 1–3 years of experience with vehicle communication physical layers such as CAN bus, K-Line/ISO 9141, VPW/PWM, or Single Wire CAN.
  • Experience using vehicle interfacing and analysis tools, automotive diagnostic scan tools, or vehicle development and calibration tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, or ETAS tools.
  • Experience diagnosing vehicle-related problems using conventional methods, such as probing connectors, building harnesses, and testing circuits.
  • Experience writing and debugging scripts, such as in Python or MATLAB, and working with SQL or Google BigQuery; strong programming fundamentals are required, with embedded C/C++ considered an asset.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills are required; bilingual proficiency is also required.
If you got this far, we hope you're feeling excited about this role! Even if you don't feel you meet every single requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
