The Underwriting team at Manulife is looking for creative, passionate individuals who are obsessed with customer satisfaction to join our world-class underwriting team. The individual life insurance underwriter has the privilege of working with various distribution channels, including national accounts, general agents, and advisors.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct risk assessment and classification in accordance with Manulife's philosophy and standards.

  • Communicate and collaborate with sales colleagues and head office to provide the highest quality and competitive decisions to our clients.

  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Consistently deliver the best customer experience by making every interaction meaningful

  • Comply with consumer laws and regulations regarding risk classification, confidentiality, and disclosure.

  • Identify and propose solutions to problems and procedures related to the underwriter's work.

  • Promote an atmosphere of trust with all clients to facilitate the acceptance of decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • You are continuously learning – currently enrolled or very interested in insurance-related courses such as LOMA and/or ALU courses.

  • Demonstrated professional experience as underwriter, at least 5 years of experience.

  • Approval limit of at least $5,000,000 in life insurance and $250,000 in critical illness insurance

  • Be on the lookout for trends and changes in medicine, knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology, diseases, tests, and modes of treatment.

  • General awareness of current events, industry issues and trends

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to define, research and solve problems.

  • Excellent mentoring skills

  • Exemplary customer service skills and excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to understand, preserve and apply current technical information to everyday work problems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

  • A university or college degree in a related discipline is considered an asset.

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,250.00 CAD - $155,250.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
