Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Traffic Signal Design, Roadway Lighting Design, and Traffic Operations for transportation facilities. The successful candidate will lead and own the preparation of preliminary and detailed traffic/intersection design drawings, cost estimates, specifications, proposals, and technical reports related to design and study assignments.

Role accountabilities:

  • Accountable to the design, delivery, coordination, and management of roadway illumination, traffic operations, and traffic signal projects.
  • Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and roadway agencies on traffic signal, roadway lighting, and traffic operations designs using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar software, including layouts, equipment details, and photometric analyses.
  • Lead the technical development of wiring diagrams, power calculations, and electrical engineering designs in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and ESA requirements.
  • Provide utility coordination, technical reporting and advisory, tender documentation, and field support services, including commissioning, traffic signal turn-on, and site inspections.
  • As Authoring Engineer, review and validate engineering deliverables, including drawings, specifications, analyses, and cost estimates, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures, and sound engineering practices.
  • Ensure project documentation and deliverables meet QA/QC requirements and are completed accurately, on schedule, and to a high standard of quality, including engineering-stamped drawings and final reports.
     

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in traffic signal/intersection design and traffic operations, preferably within a consulting engineering or utility environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as the Engineer of Record and/or Authoring Engineer on multiple major transportation projects in Ontario is mandatory.
  •  Must possess, or be eligible to obtain, a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Proficient in both AutoCAD and MicroStation or similar applications.
  • Must have more than 5 years of technical leadership and staff development experience within the relevant line of business. This is a People and Technical Manager role; therefore, client-facing experience is mandatory. Experience directly supervising up to five Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and/or designers is required.
  • Demonstrated Project Manager experience of at least 4 years, including direct client interaction on technical matters and expertise in regulatory and standards compliance.
  • Proficient in AGi32 and various traffic operations software applications.
  • Well-versed in Ontario Traffic Manuals (Books 5, 7, 12, and 15), the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada (MUTCDC), RP-8 (latest edition), technical manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), and relevant industry manuals/standards.
  • Experience with O. Reg. 22/04 certification and coordinating with utility authorities.
  • Experience using pole loading software such as SPIDAcalc or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Experience performing site inspections, construction supervision, and contract administration
  • PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification or an equivalent industry-recognized credential is considered an asset
  • MTO Major Electrical RAQS certification, or comparable Traffic Engineering-related RAQS qualifications, is considered an asset
  • Experience working on MTO roadway lighting projects and MTO traffic signal timing projects.

The salary range for this position is $93,280 - $139,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
