Technical Accounting Manager (20-Month Contract)
We are ready to take this game to the next level and need a passionate Technical Accounting Manager to provide technical accounting guidance and expertise to perform daily operations of the external reporting team and ensure compliance with changing regulatory requirements, current accounting standards and internal controls.
YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting, you will be empowered to:
Participate in the preparation of external reporting requirements, including annual consolidated financial statements and Annual Report ensuring adherence to applicable accounting standards while meeting timelines outlined in the Ministry Memorandum of Understanding. Liaise with Financial Planning & Analysis and other departments/teams to coordinate the gathering of financial information and validation of results.
Support OLG’s monthly consolidation and close process and preparation of financial statements.
Provide support for the annual audit by preparing and/or reviewing working papers, financial statements note disclosures and providing auditors with requested information on time; respond to queries from external auditors as required, escalating any issues.
Prepare accounting discussion papers to document current accounting issues, evaluate the impact on OLG and propose recommendations to be evaluated and implemented by senior management.
Lead role in conducting the accounting assessments of any new potential contracts/partnerships with external parties; outlining implications and providing recommendations in the best interests of OLG.
Provide support to Senior Manager, External Reporting and Senior Manager, Technical Accounting when assessing changes in various accounting standards pro-actively; including providing assessment on current contractual obligations.
Assist Senior Manager, External Reporting and Senior Manager, Technical Accounting in preparing/presenting accounting guidance for the IFRS share forum with National lottery jurisdictions to provide advice on OLG accounting matters and share leading practices.
Assist in the preparation of reporting to internal stakeholders including the preparation of briefing notes and presentations on financial information.
Lead the preparation of ad hoc financial requests, FOIs and press releases as needed.
Collaborate with appropriate lines of business and senior management to enable timely provision of required financial information and address queries related to financial statements, note disclosures and annual reports.
Assist Director of External Reporting & Technical Accounting to drive continuous improvement within the external reporting function.
Proactively identify areas of improvement within the team and develop actionable recommendations for procedural and/or system changes required to strengthen the external reporting function and control framework.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE GAME
Education & Experience:
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, including the preparation of financial statements, working papers, and financial reporting deliverables.
Experience supporting external reporting, audit activities, and the application of accounting standards.
In-depth knowledge of IFRS is a strong asset.
Understanding of OLG's business model and the lottery and gaming industry is considered an asset.
