Job Description
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Taxation, the Director, Taxation will be a key member of Brookfield Asset Management’s Corporate Tax group. This role will focus on overseeing complex tax matters across Brookfield Asset Management and providing strategic tax leadership across the organization. The Director will work closely with senior members of the Tax teams and business groups globally, including infrastructure, renewable power, real estate, private equity, and insurance. This role will play an important part in shaping tax strategy, managing significant tax initiatives, and ensuring compliance across a complex global structure. The position offers an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership role within a highly dynamic and collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and review of the consolidated quarterly tax provision in accordance with US GAAP and coordinate with external financial statement auditors.
Oversee Canadian tax compliance (corporate, partnership, and other filings/elections) in collaboration with external service providers, ensuring accuracy and timely filings.
Manage Canada Revenue Agency audits and inquiries, including responding to information requests and coordinating audit strategy.
Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Tax, and Legal teams globally to ensure the proper maintenance of structures through the administration of tax policies and guidelines.
Partner with Brookfield’s global business groups on international tax matters, including structuring, documentation, and compliance considerations.
Monitor and assess developments in Canadian and international tax legislation and evaluate potential impacts on Brookfield’s operations and structures.
Requirements:
In order to qualify, the following minimum requirements should be met:
CPA designation with at least 8+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, including experience at a national public accounting firm and/or relevant industry experience.
Strong experience with Canadian tax compliance and tax accounting.
Working knowledge of Canadian tax rules, including foreign affiliate rules and international tax considerations.
Demonstrated experience managing complex tax matters and providing strategic tax advisory support.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex tax concepts to senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions and manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
