Job Description

The Director of Tax, Canada & LATAM is a key role within the tax department and will work closely with both the Dallas based corporate tax team and the regional finance teams. As a key member of AECOM’s Tax Leadership team, you will develop, manage and guide the Americas tax department while being part of a knowledgeable and experienced tax group that will help grow your skills and advance your career. In addition, as part of a dynamic regional management team you will interact with business leaders, corporate executives, external audit and outside professional advisors to ensure compliance and support business growth.

This position will offer flexibility for hybrid work schedules to include a combination of both in-office presence in Markham, Ontario Canada and telecommute/virtual work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach and mentor the tax team (3 to 4 FTE)
  • Responsible for ensuring the US international quarterly and annual tax provision calculations and international tax compliance matters for the Americas piece of the US tax returns are completed in partnership with the US tax team 
  • Advise the project teams and corporate executives on the tax implications (WHT, corporate tax, indirect tax) on the complex cross border project bids & projects
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely completion of Canada and other Americas local tax filings and being the key point of contact for CRA in Canada
  • Partner with Tax Planning team members on special transactions and worldwide tax planning to provide tax and operational efficiencies
  • Assist with transfer pricing including corporate allocations and royalty pricing 
  • Forecasting the US underlying effective tax based upon the plan data and provide input on tax cash flows for the annual plan
  • Devise and undertake tax planning and general efficiency initiatives such as legal entity mergers, restructuring, recapitalisations and transfers of trade
  • Drive process improvement across all tax processes and build processes as AECOM enters new countries
  • Support Corporate Finance, Legal, Treasury and Accounting on tax matters for AECOM foreign operations
  • Responsible for providing advice to the HR function in relation to employee tax matters to ensure company compliance
  • Manage the filing of the various Canada GST returns in conjunction with finance team
  • Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests including M&A activity that may occur within Canada and the Americas
  • Some international travel expected

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus at least 12 years of relevant tax experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including at least 4 years of leadership experience
  • Experience within tax leadership roles with large-scale & complex public company
  • Strong analytical & problem solving skills
  • Proven ability and track record in leading, mentoring, developing, growing and managing a team of experienced tax professionals.
  • Experience successfully building trusting relationships with Operations, fostering open communication and demonstrating reliability and consistency
  • Staying informed on international tax regulations, changes and business environment and determining potential impact on the company.
  • Experience in developing, presenting and implementing process improvements, new approaches and best practices.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP tax accounting (ASC 740), international tax concepts and preparing and reviewing US tax calculations and compliance.
  • Must be pro-active and demonstrate ability to see things through to the end

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree in Taxation, Business, Law or related field
  • Professional Tax qualification or accounting certificate (CPA, ACA, ACCA or similar)
  • Engineering & Construction experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage details but also understand the “big picture”.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be resourceful, hands on and work both independently and as part of high-performing multi-cultural global team
  • Ability to think creatively and solve problems.
