As the Supervisor, Underwriting you will provide functional expertise and guidance to Underwriting Operations Leads, Underwriters and Underwriting Specialists. You will manage and support your teams while developing and implementing strategic plans to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department.


How you will create impact: 
  • Providing leadership to manage change effectively and ensure a positive, supportive and professional work environment.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring unit plans, goals, priorities and schedules that are aligned with organizational and departmental strategic goals.
  • Contributing to the development and management of expenditures within a department budget by developing plans to achieve financial goals.
  • Ensuring that underwriting decision-making processes and consultations across all product lines is consistent and considerate of client profitability and growth expectations.
  • Coaching and developing your team, recruiting and selecting talent, recognizing achievements, and managing performance, to develop an agile team and achieve department objectives.

To join our team:  
  • You have five years successful related insurance experience or related work experience.
  • You have a post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Have the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is a requirement. 
  • Having strong knowledge of insurance products, processes and practices is a requirement. 
  • You have strong knowledge and experience in leading, mentoring, coaching, and contributing to the development of staff.

What you need to know:
  • You will be subject to a Background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.
  • You will travel occasionally.
  • This role may involve direct contact with clients and/or service providers in their environment.

Salary information

Expected salary $72,847.00 to $121,411.00 CAD 


Salary placement

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Incentive/Variable pay

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
