Lead technical design and delivery of scalable, secure microservices. Drive engineering standards, code reviews, architecture decisions, cross-functional collaboration, and introduce tools/process improvements.
The summary above was generated by AI

At Clutch, we believe advances in AI are fundamentally changing how great products are built. Traditional handoffs between product, design, and engineering are giving way to smaller, faster teams where builders can take ideas from concept to production in days instead of months.

Our engineers don't just write code, they own outcomes. As a Staff Engineer, you'll extend that ownership beyond your own projects, working across teams to raise the technical bar, shape architecture, and help build the culture and practices that let Clutch's engineers move fast without breaking things. You'll partner with stakeholders to understand problems, shape solutions, design for scale, and mentor other engineers along the way.

This is a role for people who thrive on ownership of the problem, the solution, and the outcome, at a company level, not just a project level. You'll have the autonomy to identify what needs to change across the org, whether that's architecture, process, or team practices, and drive it forward. If you're energized by ambiguity, moving fast, and building products and teams with real business impact, you'll thrive at Clutch.

Technology at Clutch

We believe great engineers can learn great technology.

Our team builds with technologies like TypeScript, React, Express, PostgreSQL, and AWS, but we're far more interested in exceptional engineers than perfect technology matches. If you've built outstanding products in another modern stack and are excited to learn, improve, and help evolve ours, we'd love to talk.

What you'll do

  • Own architecture and technical direction across teams, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and built for long-term maintainability.
  • Partner with Operations and other cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business needs and operational realities.
  • Mentor engineers at all levels, raising the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and hands-on guidance.
  • Help build and promote a strong engineering culture, one that values ownership, curiosity, and high standards, both by example and by shaping team practices.
  • Design and evolve core systems, APIs, and database architecture with an eye toward what Clutch will need 1-2 years out, not just today.
  • Identify gaps in engineering practices, tooling, or process, and drive the changes needed to close them.
  • Use AI as part of your everyday engineering workflow, and help the broader team adopt AI-powered practices that improve velocity and quality.
  • Lead by influence, working across product, design, and engineering to shape roadmaps, priorities, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Make high-leverage technical decisions that balance speed, quality, and long-term scalability, and clearly communicate the reasoning behind them.
  • Continuously improve the systems, tools, and developer experience that power Clutch, at a team and organizational level.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of technical leadership.
  • Have designed and scaled complex systems in a production environment.
  • Have experience building frontend, backend, or full-stack applications, with deep expertise in at least one.
  • Have experience with one or more modern programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, C#, Rust, or Ruby.
  • Have experience designing scalable architecture, optimizing performance across systems, and solving ambiguous, high-stakes technical problems.
  • Have experience with relational databases, API design, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Have experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond your own individual work.
  • Have worked cross-functionally with Operations, Product, or other business functions to align technical decisions with real-world constraints.
  • Use AI as a force multiplier, both for your own work and to help teams adopt better engineering practices.
  • Communicate clearly, build trust across teams, and are comfortable making decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Care as much about the people and culture around you as you do about technical excellence.
  • Are naturally curious and excited to continuously learn, improve, and raise the bar for yourself and those around you.

Why you’ll love it at Clutch

  • Autonomy & ownership – create your own path and own your work
  • Competitive compensation and equity incentives
  • Generous time off program
  • Health & dental benefits

Employment Type
