Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe Terminal helps our users extend their online presence to the physical world at the point of sale (POS) moment. The Terminal team’s mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as the Stripe API has done for online payments. With Terminal, businesses can unlock in-person payments use cases that are right for their business model—whether it’s creating a superb retail experience, extending their website to a pop-up store, or enabling a mobile point-of-sale at their next event.  Terminal is one of the fastest growing products at Stripe and we are expanding both globally and into new segments and verticals like retail, food and beverage, events, and hospitality.

What you’ll do

As a product designer on Terminal, you’ll work closely with the go-to-market, product management, hardware, and engineering teams to envision the future of in-person payments in a range of applications. You’ll deliver excellent product experiences to businesses through the Stripe Dashboard and mobile app, to end users on our readers, and to our partners at marketing events like Stripe Sessions and more. This includes designing new features and systems, improving product quality, and refining our most critical in-person payments experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test and iterate on concepts for Terminal reader software, third party devices, and related dashboards
  • Prototype user experiences to investigate with stakeholders and end-users and drive internal alignment
  • Lead design strategy and innovation for in-person payments, pushing the industry forward while balancing user needs with Terminal's strategy and technical requirements
  • Partner closely with cross functional teams across hardware, software, product, and engineering
  • Collaborate with teams across Stripe to craft a seamless user experience
  • Understand user workflows and pain points for in-person payments
  • Collaborate with UX research to test, inform, and iterate design decisions before shipping
  • Collaborate with our design systems teams to leverage and improve templates and components

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • Has 10+ years relevant design experience at a product-driven tech company
  • Has strong craft demonstrated through a portfolio of work including high quality and comprehensive prototypes
  • Has a demonstrated ability to tackle complex and ambiguous problems with user-centered solutions

  • Has experience collaborating closely with hardware engineering teams
  • Is comfortable approaching code and technical documentation
  • Experience collaborating with user research partners on insight-gathering tactics

Preferred qualifications

  • Has a passion for turning complexity into usable, beautiful experiences
  • Are a strong design leader comfortable with bringing your point of view to a team
  • Has experience setting and managing design priorities through planning and execution
  • Is an advocate for building highly accessible consumer experiences
