Who are we?
iFinance Canada is a leading Canadian financial services organization. We're growing — and so is our infrastructure. We're looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our lean, high-impact Infrastructure team and take ownership of our Microsoft-centric environment while contributing to the security and operational maturity of the organization.
The role
This is a hands-on senior role that spans cloud infrastructure, identity and security management, and day-to-day IT operations. You'll be working directly with senior IT leadership to architect, secure, and maintain our environment — while also rolling up your sleeves for front-line support when the team needs it.
You'll own and operate across our Microsoft 365 and Azure stack, including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Purview, and related services. Beyond Microsoft, you'll collaborate across a broader ecosystem of platforms that support the business. This isn't a role where you sit in a silo — you'll touch everything.
What you’ll do
- Microsoft Infrastructure & Security (Core Focus)
- Administer and optimize our Microsoft 365 tenant, including Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, Intune, and related workloads
- Manage identity lifecycle, Conditional Access policies, authentication methods, and RBAC across Entra ID and Azure
- Configure and maintain Microsoft Defender suite (Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Defender for Cloud) and Microsoft Purview (compliance, data loss prevention, information protection)
- Manage device compliance and endpoint security through Intune (Windows, macOS, mobile)
- Administer and support Azure infrastructure (VMs, networking, storage, monitoring)
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement security improvements across the environment
- Maintain and enforce security baselines, hardening standards, and compliance requirements
- Cross-Platform Collaboration
- Work with and support various business platforms including HubSpot, Zoom, KnowBe4, and other SaaS tools as needed
- Integrate third-party platforms with Entra ID for SSO, provisioning, and governance where applicable
- Evaluate new tools and platforms from an IT and security perspective
- Operations & Support
- Provide Level 1 / Level 2 support as needed — we're a small infrastructure team and everyone pitches in
- Handle employee onboarding and offboarding processes (account provisioning, device setup, access management)
- Perform basic troubleshooting, application support, and end-user assistance
- Document processes, configurations, and runbooks to support team knowledge sharing
- Strategy & Collaboration
- Work closely with senior IT staff to develop and execute on infrastructure and security roadmaps
- Make recommendations to improve the security posture, operational efficiency, and reliability of our environment
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis as needed
Requirements:
- 7–10 years of experience in IT systems administration, with a strong focus on Microsoft technologies
- Deep, hands-on proficiency with Microsoft 365 administration (Entra ID, Exchange Online, Intune, Teams)
- Strong experience with Microsoft Defender suite and/or Microsoft Purview
- Solid understanding of Azure infrastructure (IaaS, networking, identity)
- Experience designing and managing Conditional Access policies, MFA, and Zero Trust principles
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting
- Strong grasp of IT security fundamentals — endpoint security, email security, DLP, compliance frameworks
- Experience with device management and endpoint compliance (Intune / MDM)
- Ability to work independently and take ownership, while collaborating effectively in a small team
- Willingness to handle Level 1 support tasks when needed — no task is beneath this role
Nice to Have
- IaC / Dev Ops experience
- Experience with or exposure to platforms such as HubSpot, Zoom (including Zoom Contact Center), KnowBe4, or similar SaaS tools
- Familiarity with on-premises infrastructure (VMware, SAN/storage, networking)
- Microsoft certifications (AZ-104, SC-300, MS-102, SC-400, or similar)
- Experience in financial services or a regulated industry
- Familiarity with security frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO 27001)
Competencies:
- Excellent ability to listen and communicate (written and oral);
- Ability to manage multiple tasks at a time and navigate multiple screens while helping a client;
- Must pass a criminal background check;
- Keep a calm and distraction free space;
- Organizational and problem solving skills;
- Strong attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
What awaits you?
- Join a growing organization where IT has real impact and visibility
- Work directly with senior leadership on meaningful infrastructure and security initiatives
- Hybrid flexibility (4 days on-site in Toronto / 1 day remote)
- Opportunity to shape and improve the environment — not just maintain it
