The Team
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, including Square Loans, Square Checking, Square Savings, Square Debit Card, Square Credit Card, and now Square Line of Credit.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as sellers who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role:
Square Line of Credit is an experimental product that offers a competitively priced, revolving line of credit to business owners looking to access funds whenever they need it. Having access to funds at a moment's notice is critical for developing peace of mind and smoothing cash flow - like when the refrigerator breaks down, a large inventory order needs to be placed, or staffing suddenly needs to grow. A single, streamlined online application embedded in the Square ecosystem makes applying for a Line of Credit easier than traditional banks.
The Square Line of Credit team and its partner frontend engineering team together provide the product experience that fuels a smooth end-to-end experience for Square sellers. As a software engineer on the Square Line of Credit Team, you will help us identify product market fit for the Line of Credit product, expand access to more Square sellers, and manage ongoing risk. You will be responsible for designing and building sophisticated financial systems and highly available services while working with your team peers, cross-functional partners, and adjacent engineering teams. If you love collaboratively delivering elegant software that improves the lives of business owners, we want to work with you!
You Will

  • Support major initiatives to identify product market fit and then expand access to Line of Credit for our sellers
  • Work with Engineering, Product, and other partners to build software that is clean and well-tested
  • Oversee the entirety of your features, including component design, implementation, testing, roll-out and maintenance
  • Partner with web and platform engineers to ship features
  • Work with designers, product managers, data scientists, and other developers to understand our problem space and create elegant solutions
  • Become an expert in multiple technical areas of the team
  • Participate in ongoing training to maintain current knowledge of BSA/AML and perform BSA/AML duties as required by job function

You Have

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in at least one server-side language and an enthusiasm to learn others
  • Ownership and execution skills with a focus on delivering remarkable solutions to our sellers
  • Passion for working in a customer-focused environment
  • Passion for engineering excellence by making high quality, impactful technical contributions
  • Experience creating detailed technical documentation
  • An ability to work with partners across Product, Design, Data Science, Operations among other functions

What We Do

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Why Work With Us

We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed, and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.
