What You’ll Do:
As Senior Analyst, Business Development – Americas, you will play a critical role within the Business Development team in North America in the pursuit of growth opportunities across gas-fired generation, renewables and battery storage. The activities that this role would be part of include sourcing, structuring and executing long-term revenue contracts; acquisition of development and operating assets; and originating greenfield development opportunities.
This role will bring deeper analytical rigor, increased ownership of customer/counterparty engagement, and increase bandwidth in the Business Development team. You will work closely with cross-functional partners across Project Development, Market Analysis, Finance, and Operations.
The role will be required to work in the Toronto office four days per week with one flexible day to work from home

Key Responsibilities

Acquisitions and Revenue Contracts

  • Manage acquisition processes – coordinating due diligence meetings, support collection of key inputs and support deal structuring and execution
  • Manage RFP responses end‑to‑end—coordinating pricing, strategy, technical input, and bid documentation with development and financial modeling teams.

Analytical & Market Fundamentals Leadership

  • Oversight and peer review of financial and market models supporting pricing, hedge structures, risk evaluation, capacity/REC valuation, and exposure analysis for both new builds and operating assets.
  • Provide senior‑level analytics for long‑term plan cycles, budget impacts, and commercial assumptions that inform Investment Committee materials.
  • Monitor market fundamentals, competitor activity, regulatory developments, and commodity trends to inform strategic positioning across Northland’s portfolio.

Cross‑Functional Coordination & Portfolio Support

  • Partner with across the business to ensure all projects have a clear, aligned commercialization pathway that reflects local market design and buyer demand
  • Support internal governance processes—including IC memos, commercial checkpoints, and energy marketing approvals—ensuring clear recommendations and commercial risk narratives.

Who You Are:

  • A strategic commercial thinker with a deep understanding of North American power markets.
  • Analytical and detail‑oriented, with exceptional modeling capabilities and a track record of translating complex market dynamics into clear commercial insights.
  • Confident and relationship‑driven, able to lead conversations with buyers, intermediaries, and internal executives.
  • Adaptable and collaborative, thriving in a fast‑paced environment with multiple, shifting priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in North American power industry
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian electricity market regulations and supply/demand fundamentals
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Power Point;
  • Excellent communication skills, including experience preparing and delivering commercial presentations to senior leaders or external counterparties.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or related field required; Master’s degree or CFA/FRM is considered an asset.

Pay Range:

$96,800.00 - $121,000.00
