The Opportunity
 

The Senior Specialist, AI Governance supports the design, operationalization, and execution of Aviva Canada’s AI Governance Framework. The role plays a hands-on coordination function across all AI governance assessments, with a focus on model and non-model AI assessments, inventory oversight, and the orchestration of governance inputs from Cyber, IT, Privacy, Legal, and Procurement to enable safe, responsible, and scalable AI adoption.
 

What you’ll do
 
AI Governance & Oversight
  • Support the rollout and ongoing operationalization of Aviva’s AI Governance Framework, ensuring consistent application across business units and AI use cases.
  • Maintain oversight of the AI/GenAI Inventory/Register, ensuring accurate capture of use cases, risk tiering, documentation completeness, and traceability.
  • Coordinate model and non-model AI assessments with first-line owners and second-line risk partners to ensure timely and consistent governance outcomes.
     
AI Governance Assessments & Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Act as a central coordination point for AI governance assessments required for AI use cases, including Cyber, IT/Architecture & Operational Readiness, Privacy, Legal, and Procurement/Third-Party Risk assessments.
  • Ensure assessment outcomes are aligned, tracked, and reflected in AI governance decisions, inventories, and escalation pathways.
  • Track and follow up on findings, control gaps, and remediation actions, escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Prepare consolidated views and materials for AI governance forums and decision bodies, highlighting key risks, dependencies, and approvals.
  • Help define, document, and monitor AI control requirements, including transparency, explainability, bias/fairness, data protection, human oversight, and performance monitoring.
  • Support the development and maintenance of AI governance scorecards, KPIs, and KRIs to provide transparency into AI risk across the enterprise.
  • Support the establishment and maintenance of the AI Value Realization Dashboard, ensuring alignment with business objectives, strategic priorities, and benefits realization outcomes.
  • Support the development and growth of the AI Community by driving awareness, stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, and adoption of responsible AI practices across the organization.
  • Support the execution of governance control testing and assurance activities related to AI use cases.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, streamline, or automate AI governance processes, including intake, assessments, tracking, and reporting.
     
Stakeholder & Executive Support
  • Collaborate closely with Cyber, IT, Privacy, Legal, Procurement, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Data Governance, and Business teams to ensure consistent interpretation and execution of AI governance requirements.
  • Draft clear, executive-ready summaries for senior stakeholders highlighting governance outcomes, emerging risks, and remediation status.
     
What you’ll bring
 
  • 5-7 years of experience in AI governance, data governance, risk management, compliance, or analytics (AI exposure is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of AI/GenAI systems, lifecycle management, and governance practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake) and governance aspects of AI/GenAI deployments.
  • Knowledge of AI-specific regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, OSFI E-23, AMF).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.

  • Experience supporting enterprise AI governance frameworks and operating models.
  • Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups including Cyber, Privacy, Legal, Procurement, Risk, Compliance, and Technology teams.
  • Experience developing governance metrics, dashboards, KPIs, and KRIs.
  • Exposure to responsible AI practices, including transparency, explainability, fairness, and human oversight.
  • Experience supporting governance testing, assurance activities, and remediation tracking.
  • Ability to identify process improvement and automation opportunities within governance functions.
     
What you’ll get
 
  • The salary band for this position ranges from $81,000 to $130,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
