What you'll be doing
As a member of CIBC's Application Engineering team, you’ll be at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, successfully delivering complex, enterprise-scale mobile projects involving multiple back-end systems. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with working experience in various stages of the ML software design and development pipeline. This role offers the opportunity to develop your full stack development expertise with the goal of transitioning into a specialized MLOps engineer role.

How you'll succeed
- Software Development: Apply your experience in enterprise-level software development to contribute to the creation of scalable, multi-tiered banking applications. You will focus on ensuring these systems are robust, reliable, and tailored to the demands of the financial industry.
- Service-Oriented Architecture and Design: Working Experience in design and development of service oriented platforms including SOAP, and APIs, ensuring they integrate smoothly with our broader banking systems and meet all necessary performance and security standards.
- Containerization: Utilize Kubernetes, OpenShift, and other containerization tools to deploy machine learning models efficiently.
- Database Management: Lead efforts in managing and optimizing SQL databases, essential for banking operations. Your experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, will also be valuable as you help to support our diverse data needs.
- Programming Languages: While Python is essential, your proficiency in other high-level programming languages like Java, C++, C, or Go will enable you to contribute across various aspects of our technology stack.
- Natural Language Processing (NLP) and LLMs: Leverage your experience with NLP models and large language models (LLMs) to create innovative solutions that enhance our banking services and operational efficiency.
Who you are
- You can demonstrate experience in: Software Development: Extensive experience (5 or more years) in building and maintaining complex, multi-tiered enterprise software systems, ideally within a banking or financial services context.
- 2+ years of experience in Machine learning pipeline development, and a solid understanding of the ML software design and development lifecycle. Experience in the financial services sector is highly desirable.
- Programming Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Python. High level of experience in at least another high level programming language other than Python like Java, Scala, C++, C, or GO is considered as a great asset.
- Containerization: Experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, and related containerization tools is highly preferred.
- While MLOps expertise is not required, a willingness to learn and grow into an MLOps engineer is essential.
- Database Skills: Deep understanding and experience with SQL databases; exposure to NoSQL databases like MongoDB is a plus.
- NLP & LLM Experience: Experience with NLP models and LLMs, particularly in applications that enhance financial services, is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
Preferred skills:
- A strong foundation in all stages of the machine learning software development lifecycle, with the ability and enthusiasm to expand into MLOps.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on developing scalable solutions tailored to the financial industry.
- A proactive approach to staying current with the latest trends in machine learning, MLOps, and financial technology.
