Job Description:
The Senior Mechanical Designer will create, develop, and test products such as machines, tools, and sensors for the material handling product lines. They also collect data on prototype performance and supervise the manufacturing process for their designs.
Responsibilities:- Lead the creation, development, and testing of new products and systems.
- Oversee and direct design projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Independently develop and validate complex design concepts.
- Review and check work of junior/intermediate designers for accuracy and quality. Mentor and train junior staff; foster teamwork and knowledge sharing.
- Make strategic recommendations on products, materials, and processes.
- Control design/build targets and manage customer/product requirements.
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Attend and sometimes lead project kick off meetings, site visits, department meetings and project debrief meetings.
- Work under minimal supervision; expected to operate independently and provide leadership.
- Complete designs and drawings (use 3D and/or 2D design software) for the manufacture of mechanical systems.
- Set-up, organize and maintain SolidWorks PDM drawings data for use by the engineering and manufacturing team.
- Generate manuals to accompany product, when required.
- Comprehend the project objectives, create, and manage design standards and direct the design to this end.
- Be responsible for establishing and maintaining CAD data standards, structures, processes, and supporting documents for the engineering team.
- Check for mistakes which cause rework and mistakes.
- Document changes to projects or jobs and ensure proper documentation occurs.
- Make recommendations on products, designs, and materials for cost improvement.
- Control design and build targets related to customer requirements.
- Liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure design is executed correctly and within timelines.
- Proactively provide technical support for shop production.
- Collaborate with the installation team and respond to questions and/or problems before and during the installation stage of projects.
- Build and validate prototypes.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, employees are also expected to complete other duties as required. Dependent on business needs, percent of work may change as needed. All employees are expected to have familiarized themselves with the Health & Safety and Human Resources manuals, including their responsibilities as outlined in each.
Internal Qualifications:Education:
- Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
- SolidWorks certification an asset.
- P.Eng. or C.E.T. designation an asset.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Maintain valid passport with ability to travel in North America as needed, less than 10%.
- 10+ years of related experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Designer, or related position.
- Exceptional skills using SolidWorks PDM Professional in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience working in Lean manufacturing environment, methods, and process improvement programs.
- Proficient software experience with ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics NAV or CSI, (Cloud Suite Industrial, preferred), and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project).
- Exposure to Industrial Controls, System Integration, and PLC programming & troubleshooting, an asset.
- Communicates technical and non‑technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing, using appropriate tools and formats.

- Maintains a continuous improvement mindset, actively developing new skills, refining processes, and embracing new technical and professional challenges.
- Works in office and manufacturing facility with flexibility for travel to off-site meetings

- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and multiple tasks daily

Salary Range: $72,347 - $120,578
