From raw water pretreatment and ion exchange to wastewater treatment, cooling, and oil/water separation, our systems play a critical role in keeping essential industries running efficiently and sustainably.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to play a key role in the design and development of custom water and wastewater treatment equipment. Working closely with Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement, and other stakeholders, you will lead the development of complex 3D models, piping layouts, structural skid designs, and fabrication drawings that support the successful execution of projects from concept through commissioning.
As a senior member of the design team, you will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate designers, perform design reviews, and ensure all deliverables meet project requirements, industry codes, client specifications, and company standards. Leveraging your expertise in mechanical design, piping systems, fabrication practices, and industrial equipment layouts, you will identify design risks, drive standardization initiatives, and support continuous improvement efforts.
This role requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to translate engineering concepts and P&IDs into practical, manufacturable designs. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions for customers in the power generation, petrochemical, chemical, mining, and heavy industrial sectors while upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of complex 3D mechanical and piping layouts for skid-mounted process equipment based on P&IDs, engineering specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements.
  • Design and develop detailed fabrication drawings, including pipe spool drawings, general arrangement drawings, and structural skid drawings.
  • Create, maintain, and review bills of materials (BOMs), material take-offs, and piping commodity lists for procurement and fabrication.
  • Utilize SolidWorks and SolidWorks Routing to develop accurate 3D models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings.
  • Review and interpret engineering documents, specifications, codes, and customer requirements, ensuring all design deliverables meet project objectives.
  • Perform design reviews, model checks, and drawing audits to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with company standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate designers, supporting their development and ensuring design best practices are followed.
  • Identify design risks, constructability concerns, and opportunities for cost reduction, standardization, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of design standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to Quality, Safety, and continuous improvement in all aspects of design.

Qualifications

  • 8-15 years of experience in mechanical design, 3D modeling, and drafting of industrial process equipment and piping systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, including large assemblies, weldments, and routing.
  • Proven experience designing skid-mounted process equipment, piping systems, and structural support systems.
  • Ability to interpret and develop designs from P&IDs, process flow diagrams, engineering specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Experience reviewing design packages and ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards, project specifications, and company procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating project design activities, mentoring other designers, and providing technical guidance.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet project schedules in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience designing water and wastewater treatment equipment and systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME B31.3 and/or B31.1 piping codes.
  • Experience with structural steel design, detailing, and skid frame development.
  • Advanced SolidWorks Routing experience.
  • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or equivalent industry certification.
  • Familiarity with pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, and other process equipment.
  • Experience supporting fabrication shops and resolving manufacturing-related design issues.
