We are seeking a Senior Manager, Global Payroll & HR Operations to lead the delivery and continuous evolution of HR operations, including ownership of end-to-end payroll effectiveness. In this role, you will lead a team of global payroll and HR administration specialists, providing both hands-on support and developing long-term operational plans that enable the organization to scale. This role is a trusted partner to business leaders, HR and other internal stakeholders, working in partnership to deliver a seamless end to end payroll experience. In this role, you will also lead global program and process harmonization and improvement initiatives, continuously improving our global HR service delivery.
This role reports to: Director, Human Resources Technology, Operations, and Workforce Insights
This role is hybrid (2-3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Key Accountabilities:
Global Payroll
Complete Canadian and US semi-monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees within our HRIS, Workday. Provide oversight of payroll service delivery and vendor management in other regions including UK, Singapore, Vienna and Hong Kong.
Complete required year end tax and compliance activities, including processing of T4’s and Releve l’s, W-2, Quebec taxable benefits and pension adjustments, as well as ongoing proofing and balancing.
Assist internal stakeholders in completing required internal and/or regulatory compliance tasks for payroll, including working with Finance to balance payroll accounts to the GL.
Manage the payroll and operations implications arising from organizational change initiatives, including payroll onboarding of acquired companies.
Identify and execute on opportunities to realize efficiencies in payroll delivery, including identifying vendors globally that can provide economies of scale.
Provide expert oversight of payroll operations to guarantee accurate, compliant, and timely pay delivery while proactively mitigating financial and regulatory risks.
Provide communication to employees regarding payroll policies, procedures, updates, and deadlines.
Provide consulting and advice on complex matters requiring extensive knowledge of payroll policies, procedures and federal & provincial legislation(s).
HR Operations
Lead the annual budgeting process for HR, providing ongoing support throughout the year to ensure invoice management and proper allocation of costs.
Champion continuous improvement by leading regular audits to identify process gaps and implementing scalable solutions for long-term operational excellence.
Facilitate internal, external and outside government agencies' audits, by providing supporting documentation throughout the review process as the need arises.
Enforce compliance with evolving employment legislation, payroll regulations, internal policies, and global data privacy standards.
Maintain high-level data integrity across all systems by establishing clear ownership, rigorous controls, and standardized processes for employee data changes.
Team Leadership
Lead a team of five payroll and HR operations specialists located in Canada and the UK, providing coaching to support performance.
Must have(s):
Postsecondary education in human resources, business, accounting or related field (or equivalent experience)
8+ years of progressive Payroll and HR Operations experience, specifically within mid-to-large-scale organizations (1,000+ employees) across multiple locations
Expertise of end-to-end payroll cycles within Workday HRIS, complemented by a strong background in broad HR service delivery
Strong regulatory knowledge of end-to-end HR processes and current employment legislation
Experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams within an HR services, operations, or payroll environment
Proven ability to triage and resolve complex issues in real time, balancing urgency, risk, and employee experience
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills to influence cross-functional partners and lead through change
Nice to have(s):
PCP/CPM designation or equivalent
Experience with US payroll and associated regulatory and compliance actions
Bilingual (French) will be an asset
Salary Range: 120,000/year -130,000/year CAD
