The Opportunity - Senior Manager, Communications

As Senior Manager, Communications, you will report to the VP, Marketing and will play an integral role in leading our communications portfolio at FreshBooks. You will be accountable to shape, launch and manage our internal and external communications strategy, while helping to build up the presence of FreshBooks in key markets. This role will give you the opportunity to implement best practices and grow your career while working in a supportive, innovative and collaborative tech environment.

NOTE: This role is hybrid, meaning that the team comes together in office up to 2 times per month.

What You'll Do as a Senior Manager, Communications

  • Optimize and implement our internal communications strategy and public relations plan to enhance FreshBooks’ visibility and reputation in the B2B SaaS space, particularly in the fintech and Accounting & Bookkeeping space in Canada and the U.S.
  • Develop and manage internal communication channels (e.g. town halls, quarterly meetings and ad hoc comms) to cascade important updates and initiatives across FreshBooks.
  • Maintain relationships with key media outlets, industry influencers, and analysts across North America to support press releases, media kits and thought leadership articles when necessary 
  • Organize and manage a handful of press events, product launches, and speaking engagements for the executive team.
  • Solicit employee feedback to assess communication effectiveness and drive continuous improvement for internal communications.
  • Be a  conduit for an external communications lead supporting our government relations activity. 
  • Lead a small cross-functional team working across HR, Marketing, Product, and Creative Services to implement strategic communications plans.

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • 8+ years of experience working in communications, specifically within the context of internal communications and public relations. 
  • Extensive experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to help drive ideas and innovative solutions for ensuring key messages reach both internal and external audiences.
  • You are detailed, organized and action-oriented in your approach to communications strategy and delivery. 
  • You will actively stay informed about industry trends and best practices, particularly as it relates to the Canadian and U.S. tech space.

You'll Stand Out If You Bring Experience In

  • Public relations, internal communications, government relations in the Canadian and/or U.S. market.
  • Building and launching PR campaigns from the ground up, from ideation, through to planning and implementation.
  • Government relations, specifically within the Canadian market.
  • Actively collaborating and managing relationships with executive stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
