What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Manager of Margin Accounting, this role provides unique insight into Canadian Tire’s retail banners, key business initiatives, and financial results. The Senior Financial Analyst will partner with cross-functional teams to ensure new programs, contracts, and business initiatives are appropriately evaluated and accounted for. The role is responsible for analyzing revenue and cost of sales, investigating trends and anomalies, supporting complex accounting assessments, and ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards and company policies. Success in this position requires strong analytical and technical accounting skills, sound business judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Serve as a key accounting partner for margin-related business initiatives across multiple banners, including Mark's, SportChek, PHL, Sports Experts, and PartSource.

  • Provide accounting guidance and ensure appropriate treatment and policy decisions are applied to new programs, contracts, and business initiatives.

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and enhancement of sales return provision models across multiple banners, analyzing trends, assumptions, and key drivers to ensure reserves are appropriate and supportable.

  • Manage accounting for royalty arrangements across multiple banners, ensuring accurate financial recognition and reporting in accordance with contractual terms and accounting standards.

  • Support month-end close activities, including the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analysis.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all recurring financial reporting and deliverables.

  • Report financial results, explain significant variances to prior year, budget, and forecast, and provide updates on key initiatives.

  • Monitor and execute all key controls.

  • Effectively manage communications and relationships with business partners, Accounting, FP&A, Tax, and internal/external auditors.

  • Participate in or lead a variety of ad hoc analyses, projects, and business initiatives as assigned by the Manager.

What You Bring:

  • CPA designation.

  • University degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a medium/large company accounting department or accounting firm.

  • IFRS expertise, including experience researching and developing accounting position documents.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to see the “big picture” in a complex business environment.

  • Natural curiosity to understand the reason behind transactions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships.

  • Ability to thrive in an environment that is responsive to changing business requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Advanced PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with internal and external audit processes.

  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), and Copilot is an asset.

  • Broad knowledge of the chart of accounts and internal controls is an asset.

  • Experience in delivering timely and accurate financial reporting and analysis.

Location: Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid: In-office 4 days a week)

Broadband Salary Range: $64,000 – $106,000 CAD.
Our typical hiring range is between $64,000 and $85,000. Salary decisions are also dependent on other factors such as your experience, industry benchmarks, internal equity and other role-specific requirements. For critical roles, the compensation offering will be reviewed to ensure alignment with market rate and conditions and the unique value you bring to the role.
