The Global Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) Accounting & Reporting team is primarily responsible for the ledger close process and the accounting, analysis, and financial reporting results of Manulife's subsidiaries. The Legal Entity Reporting (LER) Public Markets team focuses on performing the legal entity controllership function for a growing number of US and Canadian subsidiaries. Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Financial Analyst – Legal Entity Reporting (Public Markets) will be responsible for supporting the analysis and reporting of subsidiary financial statements, preparing board reporting packages, completing regulatory reporting requirements, and supporting external audit activities for the LER team. You will also be involved in financial statement automation initiatives to help streamline monthly and quarterly reporting processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, CFO and Board of Directors reporting packages, and disclosures for a number of US and Canadian subsidiaries

  • Prepare variance commentary, explaining quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year changes

  • Complete quarterly regulatory reporting requirements for US and Canadian subsidiaries

  • Lead financial statement preparation and coordinate annual external audits for US and Canadian subsidiaries

  • Collaborate with senior management, external auditors, and cross-functional teams to support financial reporting, regulatory filings, audit requirements, and business initiatives.

  • Support the assessment of financial reporting implications for new products and initiatives

  • Working with the team, assist in developing and implementing processes and controls to support legal entity reporting, including processes that ensure appropriate oversight and review of regulatory reporting

  • Work independently or with management to identify reporting, process, or control issues and recommend practical solutions

  • Develop solutions to automate existing manual processes within Global WAM

  • Prepare memos and supporting documentation for accounting policy changes and dividend projections and communicate to all stakeholders

  • Lead meetings with business stakeholders to analyze and document business processes and collect business requirements for new solutions

  • Foster a collaborative team environment by mentoring junior employees, sharing knowledge, and supporting their professional development and onboarding

Required Qualifications:

  • University Business Degree and a CPA designation (or working towards a CPA designation)

  • General understanding of IFRS and/or US GAAP

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial services, or a consulting firm; experience supporting public or private investment management industry reporting is an asset

  • Experience with financial reporting tools such as Infor/Lawson and Smart View/Essbase, as well as an understanding of accounting units and cost centers, is considered an asset

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and respond to changing information needs or last-minute requests

  • High level of energy and initiative to perform in a fast paced and challenging environment

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proven self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision and establish priorities to meet deadlines

  • Advanced level of proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Word and PowerPoint to develop reports, Power BI, documents and presentations)

  • Experience with Microsoft Power Apps, Microsoft Copilot, and other AI-enabled productivity tools used to support automation and process improvement initiatives is considered an asset

  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Salary range is expected to be between

$73,725.00 CAD - $122,875.00 CAD

Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
