The Mars Legal Department invites applicants for this new role - Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal - to leverage data analytics and insights for informed decision-making, risk management, and operational efficiency. By analyzing legal spend data, tracking trends, and providing actionable recommendations, the Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal contributes to the strategic management of outside counsel and enhances the overall effectiveness of the legal department.
What are we looking for?
The Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal operates within the Mars Legal Department, playing a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights that inform legal strategies and decision-making. This role involves close collaboration with legal teams, including attorneys, paralegals, and compliance professionals, as well as cross-functional partners in finance, IT, and operations. The Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets related to legal matters, such as litigation trends, contract performance, regulatory compliance, and risk assessments.
Working within a dynamic team environment, the Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal ensures that data-driven insights are integrated into daily operations, enhancing the department’s ability to forecast legal outcomes, optimize processes, and manage risks effectively. The role requires a blend of technical expertise in data analysis, familiarity with legal processes, and strong communication skills to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for both legal and non-legal stakeholders. By maintaining a proactive and detail-oriented approach, the Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal supports the department’s goals of driving efficiency, reducing costs, and improving overall legal outcomes.
To avoid any doubt, this Sr. Data and Insights Analyst, Legal role will be dedicated to this analysis work; there are other talented eBilling specialists who open matters, review invoices, collaborate/communicate with firms, handle accruals, and more.
Key Experience/Knowledge
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of Legal Data with attention to detail and accuracy; comfort with multiple data sets, with the ability to draw conclusions and actionable insights. and make informed recommendations to lawyers, Legal Operations, etc.
- Demonstrated expertise in data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI), SQL and Microsoft Excel. Candidates may be asked to share examples of (redacted) work product. Further, any certifications in these areas are a plus.
- Experience with legal billing software is mandatory; Legal Tracker and Legal Tracker Advanced-specific experience is preferred
- Solid understanding of law firm economics, billing, pricing, and compensation practices is also preferred
- Solid understanding of key trends In the Legal Spend space (RFPs, AFAs, panels, etc.)
- Ability to present data and insights in a succinct/digestible way to all levels of the Legal Department
- Demonstrated achievement in navigating change management in corporate legal departments (track results of process changes, and celebrate our accomplishments and course-correct where necessary)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with integrity
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage a fluid and fast-paced workload, including handling urgent requests and deadlines
- Intellectually curious with ability to process a great deal of information in a fast-paced environment; willing to take initiative
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Education & Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Data Analytics or related field
- 10+ years of experience in legal billing (ideal candidates will have this experience in a multinational corporation)
What will be your key responsibilities?
- Collect, analyze, and interpret Legal Data to identify trends, patterns and anomolies
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and visualizations to communicate key insights and recommendations to stakeholders
- Collaborate with the legal team to understand data needs and provide analytical support
- Manage confidential information with discretion and adhere to data privacy and security protocols
- Prioritize and manage workload in a fluid and fast-paced environment, including handling urgent requests and deadlines
- Assist in the development and implementation of data management processes and best practice
- Participates in cross-functional projects to improve legal operations efficiency and effectiveness
