Job Description

Reports to:  Manager, Internal Communications 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week 
Salary: $93,271 to $118,920; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $139,906 with demonstrated experience and proficiency. To ensure fair and equitable pay at UHN, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
Status: Temporary Full-Time (1-year contract)

Position Summary 
The Senior Internal Communications Advisor develops, executes and evaluates strategic communications that keep TeamUHN informed, engaged and connected to organizational priorities. Through clear, timely and effective communications, the role supports a collaborative, a high-performing and inclusive workplace culture. 

As a Senior Communications Advisor on the Communications and Brand Strategy team, you will apply strategic communications expertise, audience insights and employee engagement best practices to develop compelling stories, campaigns and communications that inform, engage and connect TeamUHN members to the organization's priorities, initiatives and culture. 

Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications, and working closely with the Director, Strategic Communications, this dynamic role partners with leaders, subject matter experts and teams across UHN to develop communications that support organizational priorities and keep TeamUHN informed and connected. The successful candidate will contribute to building the internal communications function at UHN, helping employees understand key initiatives, access the information they need and feel engaged and proud to be part of Canada’s Hospital.

Duties 

  • Create and execute strategic, integrated communications plans on a range of clinical and non-clinical subjects, offering advice and consultation throughout the engagement process 
  • Monitor, evaluate, and identify opportunities to strengthen comms based on data and employee feedback. 
  • Write, edit and proofread clear, engaging, easy to read, and well-structured content for a variety of internal audiences, through a range of internal channels  
  • Help develop initiatives that strengthen employee connection, collaboration and a sense of community. 
  • Support the creation of internal SharePoint sites that reflect UHN brand as it relates to content, style, and technical guidelines  
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the department on events and organization-wide initiatives  
  • Use data and analytic insights to help inform planning decisions  

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in a related field (Communications, Marketing, Public Relations)   
  • 4-5 years of communications project management experience 
  • Ability to lead and multiple, simultaneous strategic initiative on time 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of writing and editing experience, including internal, employee, or people-centred communications, preferably within a healthcare or broader public-sector environment 
  • Experience developing and implementing internal communications strategies that drive employee engagement and support organizational objectives 
  • A demonstrated ability to translate complex healthcare and organizational information into clear, accessible, and compelling communications 
  • Experience using SharePoint 
  • Experience using AI to improve communications efficiency, consistency and scalability 
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively during teamwork   
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb complex or technical information and translate it into plain language and/or simple steps  
  • Creative problem-solving  
  • Strong oral and written communication skills   
  • Sharp eye for detail  
  • Proven critical thinker  
  • Proven diplomacy, tact, and negotiating skills  
  • Business acumen  
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in difficult situations
