Responsibilities:

Understand the business and its data

  • Capturing business requirements, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of stakeholder needs while aligning with business objectives.
  • Participating in working sessions with business stakeholders to understand measurement needs, data availability, and current gaps.
  • Analyzing existing datasets, dashboards, and reporting to identify trends, patterns, drivers, and anomalies.
  • Investigating changes in business performance, for example understanding why a metric has increased or decreased.
  • Conducting practical, hands-on analysis to help the team understand business performance and identify areas requiring further investigation.
  • Identifying and assessing industry/geographic trends, competitor strategies, and customer behaviour to anticipate opportunities and challenges.

Define how the business measures itself

  • Supporting the development and refinement of new business metrics and measures.
  • Working with stakeholders to determine how key business concepts should be measured, such as advisor capacity, digital adoption, channel migration, and other distribution-related outcomes.
  • Assessing what data is currently available and determining how it can be combined or used to create meaningful measures.
  • Developing practical proxies and assumptions where direct measures or complete data are not available.
  • Defining the business logic behind metrics so that it can be carried consistently into data models, dashboards, and applications.

Turn analysis into insight the business can act on

  • Translating analysis into clear implications and insights that can be used by the business.
  • Acting as a thought partner to the core team as they develop new measures and analytical approaches, applying sound business judgement to recommend pragmatic approaches rather than becoming overly focused on detailed technical analysis.
  • Developing charts, analytical views, dashboards, and reports that clearly communicate trends and findings, preferably using Tableau or Power BI.
  • Developing in-depth commentary and insights, and creating compelling presentations that clearly communicate the data’s narrative.
  • Taking complex information and turning it into a clear and understandable business story, using PowerPoint and other tools to communicate analytical findings and support discussions.
Help build and support the solutions that deliver it
Depth here is welcome but not expected on arrival. You will work alongside data engineers and developers, and the emphasis of the role remains with the analysis above.
  • Collecting, cleaning, and preprocessing large and diverse data sets from multiple sources.
  • Extracting, transforming, and loading data from a wide range of data sources into staging datasets and ultimately into reporting and dashboard layers.
  • Building and maintaining ingestion and transformation routines from source systems (including APIs, SaaS platforms, and relational databases) into a lakehouse or data warehouse.
  • Developing dimensional data models and semantic layers that support self-serve reporting and consistent metric definitions.
  • Guaranteeing the accuracy and accessibility of all valuable data.
  • Contributing to the design and build of web application interfaces (including wireframes and form flows) that present analytics and capture structured business input, along with the backend and API services and role-based access behind them.
  • Deploying changes through CI/CD pipelines across development, test, and production environments.
  • Monitoring the health and performance of pipelines, reports, and applications; diagnosing production issues; and tuning query and caching behaviour so that what users see stays responsive.
  • Supporting users, triaging reported issues, and coordinating fixes and releases.
Mandatory Qualifications
  • A degree in Business, Mathematics, Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in a data analyst, data business analyst, or insight analyst role.
  • Comfort working across the full analytical path (from the stakeholder conversation, to extracting and manipulating the data, to a finished insight) without needing each step handed off to someone else.
  • Substantial experience in SQL, including joins, subqueries, basic clauses, and complex filter statements.
  • Advanced Excel capability (including pivot tables, lookups, and complex formulas), with comfort extracting data from existing dashboards and reports in order to manipulate it, test different calculations, and understand trends.
  • A demonstrable ability to break stakeholder requirements down into discrete steps, activities, and data, and then build them into stories that directly answer stakeholder inquiries.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, visualization, and storytelling; developing meaningful and insightful presentations for various stakeholders.
  • Experience developing or refining business metrics, including defining the business logic, proxies, and assumptions behind them.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings clearly, simplify complex analysis, and work collaboratively with a core delivery team.
Required Skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and evaluation skills.
  • Superior consulting and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills and ability to present ideas and recommendations to various stakeholders.
  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Sound business judgement, with the ability to maintain a business perspective and avoid getting unnecessarily deep into technical detail.
  • Comfortable operating across a broad remit, with the judgement to know where to go deep and where a pragmatic answer is enough.
  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to meet aggressive timelines.
  • Innovative and dynamic, bringing an entrepreneurial spirit to our business.
  • Strong work ethic, with the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to develop their career.
Desirable Skills
Strength in any of these areas is an asset. None is a prerequisite, and we would rather see genuine depth in a few than passing familiarity with all.
Analysis and domain
  • Banking or financial services experience, particularly analyzing business performance, customer behaviour, digital adoption, or distribution metrics.
  • Prior experience in data-oriented requirements gathering and working with a data team.
Visualization and reporting
  • Experience with a leading data visualization platform (Tableau or Power BI), including level of detail expressions, table calculations, filtering order of operations, sets, groups, and parameterized calculations.
  • Experience building and maintaining Power BI semantic models and DAX measures.
Data platform and engineering
  • A solid understanding of SQL, relational databases, and normalization.
  • Experience with a cloud data platform such as Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouse and Delta tables, Dataflows Gen2, Data Factory pipelines, and notebook-based (PySpark/Python) transformation.
Application development and support
Recommended rather than required. These skills support our internal analytics applications, and the team can cover them where a candidate is stronger elsewhere.
  • Front-end development with a modern JavaScript or TypeScript framework, and backend service development on Node.js.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Azure application stack, such as Azure Static Web Apps, Azure Functions, Key Vault, and Application Insights.
  • Experience implementing Microsoft Entra ID authentication and role-based authorization within a web application.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) for multi-environment application release.
  • Experience diagnosing and tuning application performance, including query optimization, caching strategies, and cold-start behaviour in serverless environments.
  • An eye for user experience and accessibility in data-rich interfaces.
Consulting and delivery
  • Experience across multiple delivery methodologies (e.g., waterfall, Agile).
  • Previous technology advisory and management consulting experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Executive presence and experience interacting with senior leadership, while retaining an ability to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • CBAP, PMP, or other relevant designations (e.g., technology certifications); or equivalent experience.

Interview recording & AI notetakers

During the interview process, we may use transcription or AI notetaking tools. To protect privacy, legal compliance, and interviewer/candidate experience, the use of these tools is not permitted without your prior consent. We will ask for your consent and if you wish to decline, handwritten notes are welcome.

Compensation: Salary range is $100,000-$130,000 CAD

Salary ranges are designed to be competitive. Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, and experience and is subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific requirements or the role. Exceptional candidates may be considered above the top of the range, and pay can increase quickly for those who make a big impact in the role.
