Credit Risk Management (CRM) is an independent group under the direction of the Chief Credit Officer (CCO), who reports to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), responsible for the enterprise-wide credit risk oversight at Manulife. CRM has the mandate to promote a culture of risk awareness across all levels of the organization and has the responsibility to establish and maintain Manulife’s credit risk management framework. This position will play a key role in the Credit Risk Management group’s mandate of Portfolio Oversight of the Manulife General Account by way of Portfolio Stress Testing and Performance monitoring of various invested assets.
Position Responsibilities:
Portfolio Oversight & Stress Testing
Provide oversight of the Manulife Bonds, Commercial Mortgages and Alternative Investments portfolio through stress testing exercises using various tools such as RiskFrontier, Portfolio Studio, etc.
Perform what-if analysis, multi-factor stress tests and reverse stress tests to identify credit rating migration, credit/expected losses, earnings/reserve impacts and capital requirements under various stress macroeconomic conditions.
Prepare detailed spreadsheets, tables and reports to summarize stress test findings
Draft PowerPoint slides and present the stress-test results and findings to Senior Management, including the Credit Committee.
Perform ad-hoc analysis related to the Stress Tests upon request from Investment Teams, Portfolio Managers and Senior Executives.
Provide overall guidance and support in the maintenance (including quarterly data loading) of various supporting tools (e.g. Risk Frontier, Portfolio Studio) used in the stress testing process.
Research & Analysis
Prepare independent macro-economic, industry, and credit research reports on topical issues and trends, assessing their impact on Manulife’s credit/investment portfolio.
Stay abreast of the economic and market environment and proactively identify emerging risks relevant to Manulife’s investment portfolio.
Draft potential stress test topics and macro-economic scenarios to be used in future portfolio stress tests.
Performance Tracking and Monitoring of the Alternative Long Duration Assets (ALDA) portfolio
Assist with maintenance of the risk rating framework/process, collecting/reviewing/summarizing data that monitors the degree of risk present in individual ALDA investment assets.
Prepare ALDA performance tracking and monitoring reports, inputting quarterly returns data into spreadsheet models
Maintain the ALDA performance tracking spreadsheets, making changes and suggesting improvements as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3-4 years of experience in macroeconomic, industry, or credit research in a financial institution.
Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, or Finance.
Advanced data analysis skills using large spreadsheets.
Ability to summarize a large amount of data into concise reports and presentations for senior management.
Strong communication skills (oral and written)
Collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills
High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) applications.
Strong prioritization skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.
