Reporting to the Director – Data Governance & Data Enablement, the Senior Analyst - Data Governance will be responsible for developing, implementing and operationalizing data governance program specifically including a data governance council.  Role will ensure data quality framework, critical data elements framework and other policies are implemented across multiple business units.

What will you do:

  • Execute existing enterprise data governance policies, standards, and best practices across Canadian business units including consistent implementation of data policies, standards, and procedures
  • Oversee Regional Canadian Data Governance Council.  Strong communication and presentation skills required
  • Support the execution of the enterprise Data Quality Management Framework, including the design, enhancement, and validation of data quality rules and controls across critical data elements (CDEs).
  • Partner with the data engineering and BI teams to develop and maintain a comprehensive data governance dashboard, data quality reporting program tracking quality score and the progress of the data quality program.
  • Work closely with enterprise data governance, senior management, and business and technology stakeholders to support data management initiatives including capturing roles & responsibilities, metadata and reporting on data quality related issues.
  • Provide guidance to business lines on internal risk and compliance policies related information.  Understanding of OSFI E-21, E23, privacy regulations and internal Sun Life policies.
  • Act as a data governance expert with internal teams and external partners, including regulators, to promote secure, effective, and collaborative with Enterprise Data Governance team.

What will you need to succeed:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in data governance, ideally within insurance, wealth management or other financial services
  • Experience in program development and using data governance tools and platforms such as AWS, Snowflake, Collibra or similar platforms
  • Working knowledge of data management concepts, processes, and tools (e.g., Collibra, JIRA, Confluence), with familiarity in SQL and cloud platforms
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and relationship‑management skills, including the ability to prepare materials, brief senior leaders, and drive collaboration across diverse internal teams.
  • Tableau experience and other BI reporting tools is an asset
  • University degree in business, engineering, computer science or related discipline

This role requires Reliability Security Clearance. In addition to a law enforcement inquiry and a credit check, as part of your application, the Government of Canada will ask if you lived or travelled outside of Canada for 6-consecutive months during the last 5 years, and you must account for all activities during this time.

Must be able to satisfactorily complete applicable background checks prior to the start date and during employment, in accordance with Sun Life’s policies and practices.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
