As a senior advisor in Reserving Corporate Actuarial Services, you will contribute to the evaluation, management and analysis of actuarial reserves within a complex and constantly evolving business context. You will be specifically responsible for work related to the reserves of the Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI), a Desjardins subsidiary currently being integrated into DGIG. As part of this strategic mandate, you will contribute to the continuity of actuarial operations and the harmonization of reserving processes, while ensuring the quality and relevance of the analyses supporting decision-making. Your work will contribute directly to the organization’s financial strength, the achievement of an optimal balance between risk and return, and the continuous improvement of actuarial practices. As a recognized expert, you will be called upon to lead complex and strategic files, formulate recommendations based on rigorous analysis, and act as a resource person for various stakeholders. This role requires strong expertise in reserving actuarial services, developed professional judgment, and a demonstrated ability to provide influential leadership in a transformation environment. Success in this role also depends on strong collaboration skills, a high degree of adaptability, and a proactive approach focused on finding solutions and ensuring continuous improvement. More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Conduct analyses to assess insurance contract liabilities for all products and provinces and ensure the integrity of the data produced.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of valuation models and assumptions for insurance contract liabilities, while ensuring they meet the legal and professional requirements of the industry and monitoring the market in this regard.
  • Ensure that the needs of actuarial services are taken into account and met.
  • Develop and maintain various models, analyze their results and produce reports required by the organization or the various regulators.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities in your team.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or a related field
  • A minimum of six years of relevant experience in reserving
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Successful completion of at least six Casualty Actuarial Society exams or two FICA-level exams from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries
  • Property and casualty insurance experience
  • Experience explaining complex actuarial concepts in plain language
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec
  • Advanced proficiency of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Knowledge of SAS, Diva, Guidewire, Snowflake and SQL
  • Available for regional travel, namely Quebec City, Lévis, Montreal, Mississauga, Toronto or Calgary
