General Description:

The Senior Accountant will report to the VP, Accounting and will support our diversified real-estate portfolio, including commercial property management and residential development / construction projects.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, hands-on experience in real estate and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities and projects
  • Prepare annual working paper files for both commercial property management & residential development/construction
  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Assist with year-end audit and external reporting requirements
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, including vendor payments and tenant billing
  • Prepare and review bank reconciliations, loan reconciliations, and intercompany transactions
  • Track and report on development and construction costs, including budget vs. actual analysis
  • Prepare and review GST/HST filings
  • Assist with corporate tax working papers
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Other duties/projects as assigned from time to time.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • CPA designation or working toward CPA (required for Senior level; in progress for Intermediate)
  • 8+ years of accounting experience (real estate industry experience strongly preferred)
  • Experience with commercial property management and/or residential development/construction accounting
  • Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion, and project accounting
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Caseware, QuickBooks, Newstar, Yardi, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling a plus)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
