Position Overview

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting for Raising The Village’s Canadian operations and safeguards the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of its financial records and reporting. This Senior Accountant will need to be hands-on in maintaining financial records, driving assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close, preparing reconciliations and financial reports, ensuring compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations, and supporting audits and process improvements. The Senior Accountant provides timely, reliable financial information to strengthen financial operations and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Record Management

  • Maintain accurate records of RTV’s Canadian financial transactions, including accounts payable, general ledger entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Verify the completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation for payments on a weekly basis.
  • Update and maintain RTV’s finance systems with accurate and timely financial data.
  • Ensure proper filing, maintenance, and accessibility of financial records and supporting documentation for audit and reference purposes.

2. Financial Reporting & Close Support

  • Own assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close for Canadian operations, including reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules, delivered to agreed deadlines.
  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and related management reporting.
  • Prepare tax, regulatory, and statutory filings applicable to Canadian operations.
  • Analyze financial data to identify variances, trends, risks, and opportunities for improved financial controls and decision-making.

3. Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure adherence to RTV financial policies and procedures.
  • Report any suspected non-compliance or financial irregularities to Finance Leadership.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support internal and external audit processes as required.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Minimum of four years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or financial operations.
    • Experience with Sage or a comparable ERP.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
    • Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Effective time management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance staff.

    Nice-to-haves

    • CPA designation completed or in progress is considered an asset.
    • Experience in a nonprofit or NGO finance environment.
