Location: Mississauga, ON Flexibles Plant

While reporting to the Plant Manager, you will coordinate and schedule safety training and provide materials to support the operation; report safety training and audit results to the manager and applicable regulatory gaps identified as part of the audit process.  You are responsible to ensure that the plant is in compliance with all local, provincial and Federal safety legislation and requirements.

As the Safety Coordinator, you will:

  • Provide safety support, presence and guidance of the overall safety philosophy; evaluate and enforce site Health and Safety Programs and ensure compliance with applicable provincial and federal laws, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the Plant Safety Strategic Plan development.
  • Continually train, educate and refresh all facility employees on safe work practices, policies, procedures, standards and reporting related to safety, environmental and health.
  • Fully support safety initiatives by direct interface with Leadership, to address safety concerns.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled safety audits.
  • Manage, coordinate and monitor all sub-pillar safety activities as part of Sonoco Performance System (SPS).
  • Coordinate safety meeting schedules, agendas, materials and activities; responsible for updates to track action items generated from safety meetings and audits.
  • Assist and prepare presentations as well as documents required for the Division’s health and safety meetings.
  • Lead post-incident investigations and provide recommendations for sustainable corrective actions; responsible for reviewing all Close Calls and Incident Reports from Incident Report Database and discusses incidents with teammates and employees.
  • Review and create Job Safety Analysis (JSA), One Point Lessons (OPL), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental requirements as they relate to our business; maintain accurate records in compliance with Sonoco and Ministry of Environment/Environment Canada policies.

 Job Requirements:

 ·         You will possess a certificate/degree or diploma in a Health and Safety discipline (or any other related field).            

·         You will have a minimum of 5 years’ related working experience.

·         Have working knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation.

·         Be trained as a First Aid and Responder.

·         Possess highly developed time-management skills.

·         Possess effective meeting, presentation and facilitator skills.

·         Working knowledge of company safety policies, procedures and regulations.

·         Proficient with Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook.
