Summary:

We are looking for a Storyboard Designer (Contract) specializing in SaaS Explainer videos to join our Creative Design Team.

Who you are:

The Storyboard Designer is an individual contributor who specializes in translating Clio’s products into clear, engaging visual narratives for explainer videos. This is a contract role that sits within the Multimedia team inside Creative Design, focused on the pre-production stage — turning briefs, scripts, and product concepts into storyboards and animatics that set the creative direction for the animation and video that follow.

At an intermediate level, the ideal candidate works with a high degree of independence on defined projects, brings a strong sense of visual storytelling and pacing, and knows how to make abstract software features feel concrete and human. You take a brief and return thoughtful direction, collaborate openly through review cycles, and contribute to a team culture built on quality, curiosity, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll work on:
  • Translate briefs, scripts, and product concepts into thoughtfully designed storyboards and animatics for SaaS explainer videos, bringing a strong eye for composition, typography, and visual craft to every frame and a genuine passion for bringing those designs to life through motion.

  • Partner closely with script writers, motion graphic designers, and producers to hand off storyboards that give animators a clear, actionable blueprint.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Product Marketing, Product, and Demand Generation to understand project goals and ensure the story supports business and product objectives.

  • Work at the level of fidelity each stage calls for — from rough frames that explore ideas quickly to polished, presentation-ready boards for stakeholder sign-off.

  • Incorporate feedback from creative reviews quickly and constructively, iterating on boards while holding a high bar for clarity and craft.

  • Bring a broad, working knowledge of AI across the design process.

  • Apply Clio’s brand and visual standards consistently across every storyboard, keeping the work cohesive with the broader motion and design language.

  • Help build reusable storyboard templates, frameworks, and visual conventions that make explainer production faster and more consistent.

What you may have:
  • 5+ years of professional experience in storyboarding, visual development, or concept design, ideally for explainer videos, animation, or motion content.

  • A talent for visual storytelling: sequencing, pacing, and shot selection that make information easy to follow and emotionally engaging.

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates the ability to turn scripts or briefs into clear, well-paced visual sequences; SaaS, product, or other technical subject matter is a plus.

  • Proficiency in storyboarding and illustration tools such as Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate, or dedicated storyboard software (for example, Boords), and comfort bringing AI tools into the workflow.

  • Solid design fundamentals across composition, hierarchy, typography, and framing, and a clear understanding of how those principles translate into motion and video.

  • Comfort taking abstract or technical concepts, such as software features, workflows, and data, and making them clear and relatable to a non-technical audience.

  • Experience working from scripts and voiceover, mapping narration to on-screen visuals and timing.

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a brand system, keeping storyboards cohesive with a broader visual identity.

  • Strong organization and proactive communication. You flag blockers early and clearly explain the reasoning behind your creative decisions.

  • The ability to work independently and manage your own time within the scope of a contract engagement, adapting readily to feedback and shifting priorities.
