The Role
We are looking for a Risk Program Manager to serve as the risk champion within the Square Compliance org, supporting a geographically diverse set of regulatory regimes and partner expectations.
Our mission is to help build compliant and empowering products, assess and manage regulatory risk, and guide the evolution of compliance practices. You will have direct exposure to executive leadership across the organization, especially within our Counsel and Compliance teams. You will own and execute key risk management and assessment initiatives while also continuing to enhance our processes to make them more effective and efficient. You will be supported in these efforts by policy, operations and risk personnel as well as a strong central enterprise risk team. This is a high visibility role with exposure to multiple areas of the business, and an opportunity to drive risk principles in many compliance related projects. You will report directly to the Global Regulatory Oversight lead within Square Compliance.
This is a remote position.
You Will be responsible for 5 key Square compliance initiatives

  • Annual Financial Crimes Risk Assessments
    • Drafting Updating the Risk Assessments per a predefined cadence and in the event of any significant product / feature changes
    • Working with Regional Compliance Officers to understand local regulatory expectations and creating a map back to the central guidance provided by Block's enterprise risk management team
    • Defining risk appetites and Key Risk Indicators
  • Product Risk Assessments
    • Drafting / Updating Product Risk Assessments per a predefined cadence and in the event of any significant product / feature changes
    • Drafting Product Risk Assessments for all new products
  • Risk Governance
    • Drafting a Risk Management Program that satisfies regional regulatory requirements while aligning with Block centralized guidance
    • This would include work on Risk Scales, KRIs, Quantitative Risk Indicators, etc.
  • Risk & Controls Inventory
    • Owning the Risk & Controls inventory update exercise for some geographies
    • Introducing additional Quantitative metrics to the process
  • Liaison with the ERA team
    • Assisting with executing the ERA
    • Working with the Block ERA team to identify key data and risk indicators that can further enhance the process that's currently being built out.


You Have

  • 10+ years experience in compliance, risk management, or a related field within the payments industry
  • Strong technical knowledge of risk management principles
  • Ability to conduct and implement risk assessments, including identifying compliance and partner obligations
  • Strong project management skills, including organizing and managing technical and business projects, gathering requirements, developing and tracking project milestones, and estimating work efforts
  • Ability to manage the life cycle of a risk assessment, including execution, creation of policies and procedures, and reporting to senior management

The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
