Relay is a digital banking platform that gives self-made business owners the tools and know-how to be great with money—bringing clarity, confidence, and control to every dollar earned, so they can turn hard work into lasting success. We do this by replacing financial guesswork with real visibility, transforming cash flow from a constant source of stress into a clear signal owners can use to run stronger, more resilient businesses.
Our mission is to increase the success rate of small businesses. Traditional banking has been a growth limiter rather than a growth enabler for business owners, and we're changing that. Relay is the all-in-one, collaborative money management platform. We're building for employer SMBs and their finance function, and we're focused on delivering a human-centric customer experience.
Relay processes millions of dollars in deposits, wires, checks, and card transactions every business day, and 321,000+ small business owners trust us with their money. Every one of them started in the same place: an application. The Onboarding team is Relay's front door. Every application we review is a decision: approve or decline, verify or request more. Good decisions mean legitimate business owners get banking fast and bad actors never get in.
We're looking for someone early in their career — new grads included — who is curious, decisive, and excited to build workflow improvements, not just work a queue.
Review and decision new business applications end-to-end: compliance checks, KYC/KYB, document verification, and fraud review
Make approve/decline calls and own them — verify the signals, check the story, make the call. Review customer documentation and verify business activity to support your decisions.
Detect patterns that don't belong: synthetic identities, business profiles that don't match the story, altered or fraudulent documents, signals that don't add up
Document your reviews clearly and completely — your decisions and case notes are read by compliance
Suggest improvements to onboarding rules and controls: flag rules generating false positives, spot gaps that let bad actors through, and bring recommendations to Risk Strategy and your pod lead so your findings shape how we decide
Balance risk and customer experience — every decision trades fraud prevention against friction for a real business trying to open an account
Use AI tools daily to investigate faster, pull data, and improve how the team works
You're a recent graduate or early in your career with strong judgment — you make sound calls on incomplete information and can explain your reasoning. (This is an entry-level role: we'll teach you the tools, KYC/KYB, and fraud investigation.)
You're a problem solver with high agency. You don't just spot issues — you come with solutions and drive them forward without waiting to be asked.
You don't clock out at the minimum. Repetitive queue work doesn't drain you — you sustain high output and treat the reps as where the improvement ideas come from.
You build with AI. You're actively using AI tools today, and you can show a concrete example of doing something with AI you couldn't have done without it.
You're energized by ambiguity. Risk work rarely comes with a playbook — grey-area judgment calls sharpen you rather than stall you.
You seek out feedback. You see directness as respect, treat feedback as fuel, and update your thinking fast.
You're Toronto-based, able to work hybrid, and open to one of this role's two schedules: Wednesday–Sunday (Monday/Tuesday off; weekend days worked remotely) or Monday–Friday, 1:00pm–9:00pm ET.
Exposure to fintech, banking, payments, fraud, or risk — through coursework, co-ops, internships, or projects
SQL proficiency — you can pull your own data without waiting on analytics
Prior queue or operations experience: support, review, moderation, claims — anything with reps
A customer-experience instinct — you care about reducing friction, not just stopping fraud
Working knowledge of KYC/KYB and how compliance shapes onboarding decisions

Why Relay Might Be the Perfect Fit For You
You push relentlessly for reinvention: You're always asking "how can this be better?" -- in your work, in your craft, in yourself. Comfort is a signal to push harder, not coast. You'd rather build something better than defend something familiar.
You crave autonomy: We trust our team with big challenges and the freedom to solve them. If you’re someone who takes initiative, is comfortable taking risks, and seeks input when needed, you’ll find the freedom here empowering.
You own your work: You take pride in your work, follow through on commitments, and feel a deep sense of responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks.
You build with AI, not just use it: You're actively embedding AI into how you work, pushing what's possible, and bringing your team along with you.
You care about impact, not noise: You care deeply about the substance of your work. You measure success by results, not recognition, and you let your work speak for itself.
You’re energized by complexity and ambiguity: You enjoy tackling problems that don’t come with a playbook. You’re comfortable building from scratch, iterating as you go, and collaborating to shape the best path forward.
You seek out feedback: You see directness as respect, not criticism. You actively seek input, sit with hard truths, and use feedback as fuel for improvement.
Small businesses are why we're here: Relay exists to help them thrive -- and that mission has to resonate with you.
