The Queens VEX U Robotics Team (QVEX) is an award-winning competitive robotics team under the Engineering Society and Alma Mater Society. With over 80 inter-disciplinary members from engineering, commerce, and science, QVEX is the largest and most successful collegiate robotics team in Canada. The team was founded in 2019 to revolutionize engagement in robotics at Queen's, while also developing a globally recognized competitive program.

Job Description

The Director of Software reports to the Technical co-Captain and is responsible for all of the software subsystems. They lead and push the vision for the software side of the robots.

The Director of Software will build a team of project leads, which aid in designing software subsystems. They will manage the workflow of robot code. They are also responsible for enforcing the practice of the Engineering Design Process.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of software subsystems, which includes the programming of autonomous periods, localization, motion, and subsystems
  • Maintain records and logs of robot software development
  • Maintenance of programming libraries & tools
  • Manage project leads and timelines
  • Provide programming mechanical subsystems and testing code
  • Incorporate general members into projects and reassign project leads

The Director of Software can expect to gain skills in the areas of:

  • Project Management
  • Software Design & Integration
  • Resource Management

Time commitment ranges from 7-30 hours a week
