Job Summary
As an integral member of the Pulmonary Function lab, the Technologist responsibilities include: performing various diagnostic pulmonary function tests on patients, cleaning and calibration of equipment. Technologist carries out tests according to American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society recommendation.
Duties
- Perform spirometry, gas diffusion tests, and other pulmonary function tests.
- Perform regular set up and calibration of lab equipment in line with American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society protocol
- Instruct patients for testing and adhere to the American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society recommendations.
- Accurately record and interpret test results.
- Determine which test do not meet standards and document for physician interpretation.
- Participate in maintenance of standards through auditing, and reporting.
- Work with healthcare providers to develop effective treatment plans based on test results
- Maintains knowledge of current standards
- Participation in training students
- B.Sc. in Human Physiology, Biology, Kinesiology, or student registry eligible for the Canadian Association of Cardio Pulmonary Technologist (CACPT).
- Knowledge of applicable laboratory policies, procedures, ATS guidelines, protocols and practices.
- Previous experience working with patients in a hospital or clinic environment preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex data.
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Current BCLS certification
