Position Summary
We have a current vacancy for a Project Manager to join our Team in either locations: Ottawa, ON; Victoria, BC; or Halifax, NS. The Project Manager (PM) is responsible and accountable for the successful delivery and execution of the assigned project, overseeing its business rhythm and all governance aspects to ensure it meets schedule, cost, and quality requirements and satisfies the customer. This role requires highly developed communication and influencing skills, along with strong domain experience, to lead and motivate an integrated project team effectively. The PM will develop detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and regular status reports for both the customer and Thales internal management for complex projects, which may include Firm Fixed Price and/or service-based contracts. The anticipated scope for this role is to support delivery of Thales’ Joint Support Ship Program as Deputy PM, engaging with various stakeholders within the Thales matrix organization and the customer community. The PM will be accountable for driving Execution Excellence on the project and for supporting Project Management Office (PMO) initiatives within Thales Canada Defence & Security.
Essential Functions
The Project Manager will be required to:
- Plan, organize, lead, and control assigned areas and staff to achieve project outcomes within delegated authorities, establishing and controlling the project business rhythm and governance, and ensuring Thales project management methodology and an appropriate program management framework are applied throughout the project lifecycle to meet financial objectives and customer commitments.
- Develop and maintain a robust, optimized project schedule; manage and track cost, schedule, and technical performance against the approved baseline; and monitor/control WBS, risk register, scope change control, on-time delivery, EAC, and project performance objectives and indicators.
- Identify and secure the support and resources needed to achieve project objectives in collaboration with Resource Managers and key stakeholders.
- Manage all customer and stakeholder relationships to ensure responsibilities and accountabilities are achieved and expectations are met.
- Lead and motivate a high-performing cross-disciplinary integrated team by providing direction, coaching, support, and appropriate delegation, while embedding robust risk and opportunity management and a strong “Lessons Learned” culture within the project.
- Promote Execution Excellence by identifying areas for improvement and supporting PMO initiatives; prepare Project and Estimate to Complete (ETC) reviews; and perform other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Engineering or Business, or equivalent proven experience.
- Certified Practicing Project Manager or equivalent (e.g., IPMA and/or PMP certification).
- At least 7 years of demonstrated experience in the engineering or defence sector, including a minimum of 5 years managing complex projects or work packages in a matrix organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal and analytical abilities, and a positive, energized attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to lead and influence stakeholders at all levels, with strong commercial/contractual acumen and solid knowledge and understanding of the Defence sector.
- Experience across the full project lifecycle, including Design, Delivery, and In-Service Support phases.
- Background working in complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organizations.
Special Position Requirements
Type of Role: Hybrid (Home/Office) – Required to be in office for an average of 3 days a week, but requirements may be increased based on business needs and Manager discretion.
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Physical Environment: Office environment
Travel: As required primarily within Canada
The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) 137,000.00 – 185,000.00 CAD Annual.
