Job Description

The Opportunity:

The Manager, Project Controls plays a key role in supporting the Corporate Engineering & Reliability team in the successful delivery of major capital projects across the Maple Leaf Foods manufacturing network. Working across a diverse portfolio of projects, the role helps strengthen project execution through effective project controls, practical project management tools, executive reporting, and continuous improvement of the Capital Playbook.

This position offers unique exposure to some of the largest and most complex manufacturing investments across the organization. Working closely with Corporate Engineering & Reliability Project Managers and plant teams, the role provides visibility into projects from early development through execution and closeout, supporting initiatives that drive capacity expansion, operational improvement, innovation, and business growth.

The role combines coaching and support with hands-on involvement. At times, the Manager, Project Controls works alongside project teams to develop planning and scope definition documents such as Scope Statements, Process Flow Diagrams, project schedules, and action trackers. At other times, the role focuses on helping project managers apply these tools effectively, improving project management capability across the organization. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable coaching project teams as they are using project management tools and practices directly when additional project support is required.

Any MLF team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by November 18, 2026. Applications received beyond that date are not guaranteed consideration.

Reason for vacancy:  Existing Headcount
Compensation:   $96,000 - $141,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The above compensation reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.  In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf’s annual short-term incentive plan.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Coach and support project managers in the application of Capital Playbook requirements, project controls practices, and project management tools through training, compliance reviews, and ongoing project support.
  • Lead the monthly capital project reporting process, consolidating information from project managers into clear, accurate, and professional executive-level reporting on portfolio performance, project status, key risks, and emerging issues.
  • Support the continuous improvement and implementation of the Capital Playbook, including the maintenance and refinement of project management standards, tools, templates, and processes to ensure they remain practical, effective, and aligned with business needs.
  • Support project teams in the development of Scope Statements, Process Flow Diagrams, Design Intent documents, project schedules, action trackers, and other project planning deliverables, either by coaching project teams in their use or by developing them directly when additional project support is required.
  • Support project managers during periods of peak workload or major project execution, including installation shutdowns, by assisting with project planning, project controls activities, and on-site project coordination.
  • Oversee project document management systems and engineering drawing libraries to ensure project information remains organized, current, and accessible.
  • Lead and develop a direct report responsible for CAD support, drawing management, and project management tool administration.
  • Support the planning and coordination of Corporate Engineering & Reliability training sessions, quarterly meetings, and team development activities.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in a technology, business, project management, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management, project controls, engineering, reliability, construction, or capital project delivery within an industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing projects or supporting project controls functions, including project planning, scheduling, cost tracking, reporting, and coordination.
  • Strong understanding of project scope development, scheduling, cost management, and project reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance coaching and supporting project teams with hands-on execution when additional project support is required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including experience preparing reports and presentations for senior leadership audiences.

  • Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Project, and CAD software, and engineering drawings is considered an asset.
